Complications

Sarah rode silently in the rear of the squad car. She frantically thought of how to explain to the cops that her dad was the woman on the date, not the man.

She was escorted into an interrogation room where she waited. And waited. And waited. Given the ride and her waiting, Aaron’s date surely had to be coming to an end. Sarah fidgeted nervously until the door opened, and the uniformed cop that busted her entered, followed by a detective in a rumpled shirt and tie.

“You’re in trouble.... Sarah, right?” rumpled shirt said. “Stalking is a felony offense. And...” he opened a file folder that had copies of her father’s driver license and other cards from his wallet that she had in her purse.

“You seem to have someone else’s wallet in your purse. Care to explain all of this to us? We’re reasonable folks. Just tell us what was going on.”

Sarah wasn’t sure what exactly to tell the cops. She was innocent, sure, but “everyone knows” you have to watch what you say when you’ve been arrested like this.

“For starters,” Sarah said, trying to choose her words carefully, “the wallet is my Dad’s. I was just... holding it for him.”

Rumpled shirt nodded, took the folder and wrote something inside of it. “OK. Good to know. Unfortunately, he’ll have to come down to the station in person to claim it. And he’ll need two other forms of ID to do that.”

Sarah nodded. She hoped her dad could fit that in once this whole mess was over.

“Now... tell us about the stalking.”

“Uh... I get a phone call, right?”

Rumpled shirt chuckled. “That’s a movie thing. You can make a few. Family, lawyer, bail bonds...”

“If I could just make a quick call, everything can be cleared up. “

Rumpled shirt and uniform Looked at each other. After a brief pause, rumpled shirt shrugged. “You want to use your phone or ours?”

Dinner was over, and Ted was still holding tightly to Aaron as they walked back to the car. Ted had his hands all over Aaron’s legs during dinner, toying with his garters and stocking tops. Aaron’s mind was racing as he desperately was trying to figure out how to get out of this mess. Surely Sarah had some sort of end game to get him out of this.

Ted opened the door, and helped Aaron swing into he car, once again, Ted’s hand caressing his ass as he did. Ted’s cell phone rang. “Hello?”

Ted’s face got serious. “OK, here’s your mom. We’re on our way.” He put the phone on speaker and handed it to Aaron. Meanwhile, Ted ran around and got into the driver’s side started the car and eased into traffic

“Hello?” Aaron said in his breathy voice, not quite sure what to think at this point.

Sarah heard the sounds and wisely asked, “Am I on speaker?”

“Yes Sarah,” Aaron said. “What’s going on?”

“I’ve been arrested. I need for you to come down and get me out!”

“Arrested? For what?” Aaron asked, suddenly worried for his daughter.

“It’s all just a mix up. But I need you to get here to clear it up.”

“We’re on our way, honey,” Ted said, jumping into the conversation. “Don’t worry. I’ll have your mom there as soon as I can.”

“Uh...OK,” Sarah said. “I’ll see you both in a bit then?”

“In a New York minute,” Ted said, pretty much taking control of the conversation. “Your mom looks worried. I’ll make sure she gets there safely. Bye!”

Ted took the phone out of Aaron’s manicured hand and hung up. “Well, looks like this date just got sidetracked, gorgeous,” he said with a sigh. “But don’t worry, I’ll make it up to you.”

Aaron hoped that he wouldn’t make it up to him. He just wanted to get his daughter out of lockup.
