Chapter 37

Does Alexia agree to compete, and actually try to win?
Yes, to show up your brothers
"OK, my King, I'll enter but only to keep Victor, and Barticus' egos in check." You chuckle at her odd rivalry with your Oath Brothers, but you're happy she's in a better mood now. "Ok it will be hard to win both events, Alexia," you offer your best advice on the matter although as you both know, your expertise when it comes to horses is limited, "but if you could place in both races you might prove you're overall the best rider." Surprisingly, Alexia nods her head in agreement before sprinting ahead to the stables and you wonder if she will take your advice or if she is just humoring you.
As the three of you stroll leisurely along the grassy path the twins surprise you by slipping their bare arms around your waist and pressing their soft bodies against yours. It is impossible to separate yourself without causing a scene, and the pair seem unaware of the looks you are getting from the men and women passing by so you continue together until you reach Galeon who is clearly waiting for before heading to the races. If he is surprised that the shy young women from Athenapolis have their arms possessively around your waist he makes no mention of it, and you can't help wonder if this earthy giant, like Alexia, feels that your celibacy is a mistake that should be rectified.
"You did really well, Galeon, in beating that brute," Sara says boosting the giant's ego, but then adds with a teasing smile, "of course if he wasn't tired facing off with the man from Belliosi earlier it would have been a closer match." The girl is clearly getting bolder, first in claiming a spot at your side and then with her teasing of your friend. Would her sweet shyness return if she was alone with you in your tent?
"That's not it my Ladies," You drop your voice and squeeze the girl's shoulders gently as if you are letting them in on a secret."I knew that Galeon would do well. Every time he comes home drunk, his wife wrestles him out the door. He could wrestle five men as they're less scary then her." Galeon laughs at your joke relieved that you no longer seem morose.
Before the four of you continue to the starting line of the first race Galeon pulls the giggling twins from your side shoos them ahead as if they were little children, not from one of the great families of Athenapolis. With the two lovely young women out of hearing he puts his massive hands on your shoulders and grins his great toothy smile at you.
"My friend, it seems you're in a good mood." His eyes search yours soberly. "Did you, and Alexia make up?" When you nod you see him glance in the direction of the sisters who had so recently been walking so closely by your side.
"It's OK my friend. I made peace with her, and we decided to pursue a relationship were she may someday be Queen." Your giant friend gives you a smile before becoming serious.
"What about those pretty things, my king?" He asks in his straightforward way. "If you hurt her, I'm going to kick your ass."
"It is Alexia's council, my friend." You assure the giant. "She thinks that people will trust me if they see that I can be charmed by pretty women like any other man." You see your friend mull over your words slowly and then finally grunt in agreement.
"Perhaps, but Alexia is like a daughter to me, and I will not let you break her spirit." If you betray your spymaster, you have more to worry about from her as a trained assassin and spy than this formidable warrior, but you appreciate Galeon's fatherly interest. Galeon accepts your silence and turns back to where the horses are gathering for the start of the race.
"But enough talk, Sire, let's go watch her show up your brothers."
How goes the two races?
