Third base rounded: What happens next?
Movie night with Ollie
It's about 11 PM. Olivia's head is on your lap, and you stroke it gently. Just because the two of you aren't together doesn't mean that you can't and shouldn't be close. She's your sister-in-law now after all, although she feels more like a long lost sister to you. Although with that mindset that would mean you would consider Vanessa to be your sister as well. And that means you've been having sexual intercourse with your sister... maybe you shouldn't think too hard about this. Maybe you shouldn't think in general. It only seems to bring you embarrassment and nihilism anyway.
Ollie has had a bit of a bummer day, and after your intensive lovemaking with your now-girlfriend Vanessa, you decided to spend the rest of the day with Olivia, doing whatever she wants to do. You really don't want to make her feel like you're rubbing it in by being near her, in a "ooh, look at this beauty booty you will never get" kind of way, but at the same time you feel like it's important to stress the fact to her that just because things didn't change for the better, it didn't change for the worse either. You still love Olivia with all of your heart, and you would die for her, but you're just not romantically interested in her.
"Ok..." Olivia states: "So that clown guy is supposed to tailor his appearance to what the kids fear the most, right?"
"Right." You answer.
"So why the distorted lady? Is it because the kid is Jewish or something?"
"I think it's just because of that painting."
"Really? that's lame."
'It' was kind of lame in general.
"Why do I always pick the shitty ones?" she asks annoyed.
"It's because you only determine what movie to watch based on the boxart."
"It looked scary, okay?"
"Yeah, but that can't be the only criteria. Scary doesn't mean well-made. It's not even scary, honestly. The kid at the beginning got his damn arm chewed off, and he mostly just seemed to be mildly sad about it... you know, instead of screaming in bloodcurdling agony."
"And when the clown runs, it just looks goofy. It's so obviously just the actor's jogging being sped up in post-production." Olivia adds.
"And don't get me started on the horrendous sound design. The movie would be so much spookier without the sounds of a thousand violin strings popping every time something mildly unsettling happens."
"All of the scenes are just haphazardly strung together. And then this kid gets spooked. And then this kid gets spooked. And then this kid gets spooked, and so on and so forth."
"Decent cinematography though."
"Yeah, and the acting is pretty good."
"Hey, Siskel and Ebert, what are you guys watching?" Vanessa teases as she sits down on the couch.
"It" you respond.
"Oh, yeah, not my type of movie."
"We figured." Olivia snarkily bites: "This movie is in widescreen. And in colour. And not in Polish."
"Are you still on about that? "Ida" is a good movie."
"It's barely a movie. A nun has a fun day, but goes home in the end. That's it. I've never fallen asleep in the cinema before."
"There is so much more to it than that."
"No there isn't."
"How do you know? You slept through most of it. Also it was five years ago."
You can't help but smile. While this sisterly bickering might have annoyed you in any other scenario, right now it is blissfully endearing. These girls have gone through hell and back, and that must have seriously strained that sisterly relationship. Vee had needed to take the responsibility. They had been robbed half a year of being sisters, so seeing them finally getting comfortable enough to have this sisterly relationship once again warms your heart.
"Well, I'm going to bed early." Vee yawns: "See you guys in the morning."
"Goodnight, Vee" Olivia and you call back in unison.
After another half an hour the movie starts to conclude. A love triangle between a girl, a nerdy chubby kid, and the more handsome lead character gets resolved by the girl kissing the lead.
Olivia starts to cry.
"You okay, Ollie?" you ask concerned.
"Sorry, it's just... I thought I would be better at getting over the rejection than this."
Ollie has no doubt projected the plot of the movie on her own current situation... and she was the chubby kid.
You turn around and lean Ollie over you. Olivia lies on top of you, and cries into your shoulder. You reassuringly caress her head, as you do your damnedest to hug the tears away.
"I just want you so much." Olivia cries.
"I know. I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault."
Olivia keeps sobbing.
"Why don't you try college then?" you ask.
"What?" Olivia asks not quite following.
"Think about how many cute girls your age there is on such a big campus. You'll find a cute little lesbian you can call your own in no time."
"But I want the cute lesbian that is hugging me right now."
"I know. But soon, once you and Vee have gotten into a daily rhythm here, you will find a huge world of cute gay chicks you can date. You shouldn't settle down with someone now. There is so much left for you to explore."
Olivia just whimpers.
"You know, I envy you." you argue: "I was never eighteen. It didn't feel like it at least. I spent three years of my life just traveling and working. In hindsight I should have explored. You're only eighteen once, you know? You have so much ahead of you. All three of us do, but you especially Ollie. Don't waste those three years like I did. Vee and I will be here to support you. The world is your oyster. Why that's a saying I don't know, but it is one, and it's true."
"You really think I should go to college?"
"Absolutely."
"Then I'll do it."
"You have no idea how happy I am to hear that, Ollie. Vanessa will be ecstatic as well."
As the credits of the movie reaches the end, you turn off the TV, and you both go to bed.
Vanessa groggily half-wakes and rests into your side. Ollie rest into your other side.
With your lover in one arm, and your best friend in your other, you fall asleep feeling like life just keeps getting better and better.
Next Morning?
