John sat on his bed and tried to piece together what he had learned about the slate from his interaction with Olive.

1) The slate seems to work only after you tap the emerald.

2) Not everything he said happened the first time he said it.

3) The slate could alter people's behavior and make them follow orders.

He still didn't know all that the slate could do. Did the slate just make people comply with orders, or could it do other things? Why didn't all of the things he say come true after he said them?

The only way to know for sure was to experiment.
