What's next?
A fairly normal work day
After Rye took me through training she and I moved to man the front desk. She explained that the rest of my training would take place tomorrow but today was just about getting comfortable in my "work clothes" as she put it. I kept catching people staring at me and it slowly settled in that they weren't looking at my T-shirt or the floor they were instead checking me out. I still didn't know how to feel about that but I did catch Rye staring more than once with a slight smile on her face.
The people who came through the front door were a real mix. A scattershot of genders, races, and ages which surprised me. I saw a few of the other staff members but they just waived or winked too me. When I asked Rye told me the training focused on introduction in stages as to not overwhelm me which I appreciated. As the day drew to a close I rubbed my wrist and looked up at Rye.
"So uh... when I leave how do I," I said looking down at the band a bit nervously.
Rye smiled and said "It is pretty simple just will it"
Focusing for just a moment I blinked and I realized I had changed back. My clothes were fairly similar though, instead of yoga pants I was wearing soft tight workout pants that hid about as much. My sports bra had been replaced with a tight but stretchy t-shirt with the same color scheme. As I reflected on the change I whipped my head around in panic, there wasn't anyone around but Rye who was again smiling.
"I did the same thing, but the change won't work if someone will notice." Rye tapped her band and said "Others with a band don't count though so we can change. People won't put two and two together they might just remark you look like your other half." She looked down at my stomach and poked me like a snake darting out for the kill and I winced. "That's what I thought, now that the gym is closed though you are coming with me. Your female body may be pretty fit but your male one needs some more work"
What followed was the best and worst workout of my life and as I got ready to leave I felt every part of me was weak as a babe. On my way out the door, Rye called out "Hey wait I need your number". I froze a little bit and turned around rubbing the back of my head embarrassed "I uh... don't have a phone with a plan, just a smartphone no sim". Rye tilted her head to the side like I just said I was an alien before walking behind the front counter and throwing me something. It was an old flip phone with a piece of tape on the back that read 'I dropped my phone in the pool'. "You will get your first check tomorrow until then you can barrow this but keep it on in case we need to contact you or you need to call me."
I smiled and started the long walk home in the fading light.
