Daniel's Paradiso

He did not hear the doorway he passed through close, but in the deepest recesses of his soul he knew that he could not turn back even if he wanted to.

What he saw seemed impossible to him. It was like the perfect, idealized idea of what a kingdom was. No, a kingdom of kingdoms. No, every utopian future ever thought of by fantasy and science fiction rolled into one. Palaces of gold and ivory and gemstone that stretched past a horizon that stretches on forever, every building floating on its own island across the clouds. The sun was setting beyond this infinite horizon, with yellows and blues and oranges so impopssibly intense that one can only find it on a canvas than in nature.

He was so amazed that his hands ceased to cover himself, all modesty lost in the majesty before his eyes. He felt like he would burst into tears it was so beautiful.
