You take the shot

You cross your fingers. Even though you don't know Maya that well, you trust her. You take a step towards Derek, silently mouthing I hope she's right, I hope she's right. In one motion you raise your gun aim for Derek's head and shoot.

It isn't the kick of the gun, or the smell of gunpowder, or even bits of Derek's skull flying by you that surprises you. It is the sound he makes. It is the loudest most inhuman roar you've ever heard come from human lips. Of course his lips are blackening and no longer looking very human. Despite the large hole in his head he steps toward you. You shoot again.

He slumps. His body begins to smoke a black sulfurous smoke.

Suddenly, Mick screams. "You bastard!"

He charges you with immense speed, his body becoming more of a hulking hellspawn with each step. By the time you have your gun waist high he is on you. You pull the trigger. The gut shot barely even slows him.

Mick slams you to the ground, knocking the wind from you. He swings a clawed hand toward your head with frightening speed. Your life flashes before your eyes.

Things slow down. You hear a gunshot. Mick's head jerks back. You hear another gun shot. Mick's hand simply falls next to you, unmoving.

You push off the body as it begins to smoke and stand up. You see Amanda running into the woods, apparently crying. Maya grins at you like the Cheshire Cat.

Amanda has to be pretty messed up, you could go after her. Maya just saved your life and looks like she wants to fuck your brains out. Of course you are covered in demon guts, you could stand a shower.
