I waited for the second buzz before I glanced at the door. It was slightly open and I could make out the outline of a woman. I quickly weighed my options.

"I guess we have a little interruption. Wait for me in the study room," I said pointing to a door at the far end.

"Can't you pretend you're not here?" Patty asks pleadingly.

"The door is unlocked and if I don't answer, whoever that is might think of barging in!" I replied, moving slowly towards the door.

Patty can't help but proceed to the study room. She closes the door quietly, just as I push the front door open.
