So should they...?
Go Right Now!
She would be damned if she was going to let old wives tales and the superstition of the uneducated rabble affect her!
“Let’s get going then!” She called over to Thanos, who looked for a second like he might actually refuse, before shrugging his shoulders and setting off.
He didn’t pass comment on the fact that she made him take the lead, or that she stuck much closer behind him that usual. The satisfaction he got from knowing it must be driving her up the wall to feel like she needs him was more than enough. However when he turned his mind back to the growing dark maw of the cave he felt his good humour fade away.
The cave was a lot larger up close, it’s wide mouth still didn’t seem to let in nearly enough light as darkness enveloped everything a scant few meters into the cave.
The pair stood at the threshold for a few minutes, Thanos silently hoping that Arimneste would lose her nerve and call it off. He would have no such luck as the young lady gestured for him to lead the way into the cave itself.
He stared into the gloom, the huge shapes of boulders that filled the space inside where turned into monsters in waiting by his imagination. He pushed those fears down however, mostly because he could not bear the idea of Arimneste teasing him for not going into the cave.
Slowly, being careful not to slip and fall on the slick rock, he began to make his way inside. He found that once he was actually in the cave it was not as dark as he had thought. His eyes adjusted to reveal a surprisingly spacious cavern.
Arimneste lagged behind him by a fairly large distance, which is why she spotted the creature just before it lunged for him.
“Look Out!” She called out as the dark shape sprung down onto Thanos. The weight of the creature smashing him down into the floor and driving the air from his lungs. Pain blossomed in his neck, a pain that suddenly turned in a constant painful pressure, as if he was having hot water forced into his body through a tube.
Arimneste could see everything that was happening, even if she really did not want to see it. She had watched with a open mouth as the unmistakable shape of a Lamia had lept from atop one of the boulders and landed on Thanos.
Barely thinking she looked around for something to use to try and help him. The only things around where rocks and so she grabbed one up from the floor. Not waiting to aim she loved it at the snake thing as it lay atop Thanos.
Through pure luck the careening rock found its target, better yet it bounced off of the back of the head of the snake women. She turned to look at Arimneste, more surprise than anger written on it’s face. As soon as it saw her go for another rock it did something totally unexpected.
It retreated.
