Find the thief

You stop time. The thief was on foot and couldn't have gotten far.

With renewed determination, you run up and down the streets, searching for him. You're frantic, even though you have all the time in the world. You know that if you let him get away, you'll start the tale as a hero in failure. You'll forever be chasing this 1 man.

After what you estimate would have been 3 hours in real time, you finally find the man 10 blocks away from the original scene of the crime. He's clutching the purse and you retrieve it. A quick glance inside and everything seems to be still there.

Putting a hand onto the thief, you see if you can teleport him with you back to the alley. It works. You're still learning to use your magical powers and you start to wonder who may have previously possessed these rings. Maybe this is how David Copperfield made the Statue of Liberty disappear.

Back with the police officer and woman in the beige sundress, you take the officer's handcuffs and slap them on the thief, wrapping his arms around a lamp post so he can't run. You lay the purse down on the floor next to the woman and ponder your next move. Should you stick around and take credit? Leave a calling card? Or just disappear?
