Still Off Track

"Do you even know how to read a map?" Gaby yelled.

"Maybe the problem is you can't count," Erik retorted.

"Maybe the problem is your head up your ass!"

"They call it team building," Brian quietly remarked to Makayla.

"Ha, yeah," she replied, slightly laughing, "Should we interrupt them?"

"Nah, let them fight it out."

"You aren't worried they'll get us lost?" She asked

"No, I know where the course ends. Besides at the rate they are going they might be fucking by the end of the day."

Makayla looked at him shocked.

"Sorry, that was crass. It's just that they are so much alike that you can only see them fighting or fu... you know..." Brian added.

"I know what you are saying. You guys are good friends though?"

"Yeah, well he's testing that. Axe tell you about last night?"

"He mentioned something," Makayla lied. Axe hadn't told her anything, but now she was curious.

"Tried to hook up with Sayen after she'd had a few, she took care of business though. But could have been a bad situation."

Makayla's mind was spinning.

"You said they are so much alike, I didn't know you knew Gaby all that well," she inquired, "You guys haven't..."

"Oh no no no. She tried a couple times, but... I like Kat too much," he replied, forcing the last bit out as he thought about her ignoring him the last few days.

Makayla hating asking that, but needed to confirm what Brian was telling her. It suddenly all made sense: the texts last night, the flirting, what he had said to her about Sayen and... the six-pack. It had all started after Sayen had rejected him, and certainly he already knew about the wager... and seeing them at breakfast.

"Asshole!" Makayla accidentally blurted out loud.

"Oh don't get too angry, you have to share a room with her for another week," Brian replied mistakenly thinking her outburst was about Gaby.

At first Makayla was annoyed at herself for being so stupid and letting Erik pique her interest, but as her thoughts circled around her annoyance turned to worry. If Erik is going to all this trouble, then he must really believe something is happening between Sayen and Alex.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to vent all this to you," Brian said interrupting her thoughts.

"It's okay," she said forcing a smile.

Suddenly they all stopped, as they again had run straight into a river.
