Yes... A pleasant surprise.
As you go deeper, you suddenly hit something gently with your foot. You look down to see something furry lying stretched out on the cave floor, along with several other such entities. The one you gave a soft kick starts moving. You must have woken it up. You take a step back and hold the dagger in front of you, but then your human eyes finally get used to the darkness enough to see what you're dealing with and you relax, lowering the dagger.
A wolf. The cave is the den for a family of wolves.
The wolf approaches and sniffs you, and appears suspicious of your unfamiliar scent but not directly hostile. Since you're part wolf, it recognizes you as a friend. Or at least not immediately an enemy.
To earn its trust you kneel and slowly move your hand to pet it. It quickly warms up to you and licks your face.
Well, this cave is turning out to be more perfect than you thought. Not only is it a great place to stay layout-wise, it's also guarded by a pack of friendly wolves. It's the ideal place to rest during the day while waiting for dusk.
Congratulations, you've secured your continued survival in the forest. What's the next step?
You come into being as a low-level monster, the kind heroes chew through like popcorn. You know the drill, whether you're a player yourself or an artificial intelligence, and you're sick of it. You set out on your own quest: to defeat the heroes at any cost (or at least be an epic boss somewhere down the line).
