Chapter 8

How do you proceed on your hunt?
With predatory wariness.
It is difficult to leash your wild instincts, but you know that to let yourself run wild would be to lose your higher senses completely. And, though you are part beast, you are also something more. You are more than simply an animal ruled by your instincts. You are a creature of instinct and reason combined, able to take the best of both and combine them into something better. And, moreover, you are able to decide when instinct should rule over reason and vice versa.
In this moment, you decide that reason needs to be more in control than instinct. So you rein in your bloodlust and proceed forward with slow, stalking steps. You move with the wariness of a predator that knows that, strong and deadly though one may be, there is always room for caution in order to survive. There is always danger that one cannot see and expect, you know, and so you move forward with your senses sharp and your every step measured as you creep through the woods towards the scent of the interlopers.
It is a good thing too as, while moving forward, the sharp stench of magic assaults you and you stop, hackles raised and teeth bared. The acrid scent scorches your nostrils and, though your eyes cannot see it, your other senses make you more than able to realize that there has been magic laid out before you. A trap, you realize, meant to snare or destroy any that would pass over the magical tripwire. If you had rushed forward without thought as you had felt close to doing before, you probably would have fallen prey to the trap, but, thankfully, your higher reasoning had pulled through and you were able to sense the magical snare before you set it off.
Using your sharp senses, both mundane gifted to you by virtue of your lupine blood and otherworldly gifted to you by your master's energy animating your very self, you navigate past the trap and through the complicated web of other such mystical tripwires that had been placed around the heroes' camp. Wolven agility and senses help you sidestep and leap over and through the traps without setting them off and, soon enough, you are past them and able to move with a bit more freedom as the line of traps is behind you now.
You are close now, so very close. Close enough that, as you sniff the air, you can now properly identify the party that has made their way into your master's lands and that you are bound to destroy. Five individuals, you can tell. Four male and one female. Two of the males are human and the another is dwarf, you can tell easily enough, but the other two take a bit more figuring. They are half-breeds, you realize, those who are the spawn of two different races. The female has a trace of the etherial scent of the elves, but somehow lessened by the human that mingles with it, marking her as a half-elf of elvish and human parentage. The last male...he is hard to figure. It is clear there is human there, but the other scent is...it is familiar and yet...yet...
Before you can fully identify the scent, your ears pick up the sound of rustling leaves as you hear somebody coming through the woods towards the secluded clearing you had found yourself in. You move quickly, diving into the brush and shedding your wolf form for that of your human skin. You could have stayed as a wolf, but you had heard more than one person approaching and a lone wolf could easily bring down a single opponent, but two foes that were more than likely trained for battle? No, for that you needed limbs and weapons that the wolf did not have. And, while the monstrous werewolf form could easily tear apart foes, it was too bulky for hiding in the brush as you were now, laying flat upon your taut stomach in the bushes.
So your human form is what you resided in as you hid in the brush, your sharp crimson eyes looking out into the clearing and waiting for the ones approaching to come into view.
Who is it that comes into view at last?

Memoirs of a Minion
Fight, kill, die and fuck for your evil master (not necessarily in that order)!
Inspired by the immensely entertaining CHYOO story "Game Monster" by Cantalope and the very awesome video game, Overlord, in this story you are a magically spawned minion-type creature (goblin, zombie, ghoul, dark knight, etc) born to live, fight and die for your evil overlord master. Serve your master well and survive the many pitfalls of minion-dom and rise up above the rank of fodder for heroes to your overlord's right hand. Fail or betray your master (and get caught doing so) and meet your gruesome and horrible death. In either case, you'll be sure to fight, kill and (if you're lucky)defile heroes and other creatures and foes along the way, all in the name of your dark master!
