Chapter 7 by splotch splotch

What's next?

Her mom's house

Lauren sulked angrily in the car. She'd been **** away from her home with nothing! No key, no money, no ID. More important she didn't have her padded bra, her makeup, her hair care supplies OR CLOTHES! She was as helpless as she'd ever been. Bitterly she figured her mother had probably intended this. She seemed to resent Lauren's attempts at independence, and seemed to actively seek to push Lauren back under her thumb. Well, Lauren was an adult, and even stuck out in a towel she wasn't about to let her mother win! She was a grown woman dammit!

They drove in silence. Lauren slummed down in her seat, trying to hide from other drivers. She did see a trucker glance at her from his elevated seat, then throw a wink. Lauren's face scrunched in disgust and embarrassment.

After a time they arrived at her mother's house. Lauren's child hood home. She hated being here. She needed no reminders of the restriction of youth. Rising very carefully, hand glued to her towel she rose from the car. She hurried after her mother, eager to get off the busy suburban street. They entered her mother's house.

"Don't disturb your stepfather." Her mother said. "He's out back hosting some friends."

"Great." Lauren muttered. Ray and his friends. Lauren had never gotten along with her stepfather. He was a construction worker, and a proud red neck. He tried to be friendly to Lauren but she always just found it creepy and uncomfortable. Plus, his stupid construction worker friends always eyeballed her, it was so obvious!

"Now, let's head out to the garage." Her mother said. They headed to the backdoor. Her mother opened to the backyard. Lauren followed. She saw the pool, then nearby her step father and his friends, gathered with beers around a BBQ. One of them looked Lauren's way and whistled loudly.

"Hey Ray, your step daughter's home!" He called. They all turn. Lauren froze under their gaze.

"Yeah, and it looks like she forgot to wear clothes!" Another added. They all laughed. Lauren flushed, rubbing her foot against her calf nervously.

"Hey honey!" Ray said, raising a hand. "It's great to see you!"

They all laughed, then went back to their conversation, though many glances were still cast Lauren's way. She hurried after her mother to the garage.

They entered the crowded, cluttered garage. Lauren's mother looked around, then found what she was looking for. She grabbed a box and pulled it down, dropping it in front of Lauren. It was labelled 'Lauren's clothes'.

"Here, there should be some things for you to wear." her mother said. "Now, start bringing everything you want to keep out to the curb. Make a seperate pile for what you want thrown away."

Her mother didn't mention that all these clothes were from Lauren's childhood. Whatever, Lauren was just happy as her mother left.

Crouching down, she opened the box. Inside was a selection of clothes from her childhood. Lauren laid them out one by one. First, a yellow, childish sundress that looked quite short. Next it was a bikini, her first two piece. Lauren realized with a shudder that it may still fit. Then her old gym clothes, a small cotton tee and shorts. Why had she kept that? It did nothing for her. Then her old nightie... and nothing else! That was it! She had to choose between these worthless clothes!? She didn't even have underwear!

What does she pick?
