"Gina has a spot on her calendar later today," Clara says. "Did you have time around four?"

"Would you pencil me in, please, Clara?" you say, hoping the warmth in your face and ears isn't as bright red as it feels.

"There you go," Clara says. You feel a little buzz in your pocket as your work phone acknowledges the appointment.

"Thank you very much," you say.

"You're so welcome!" Clara says.

You think she's a little young, or maybe a little old to be wearing that thick red lipstick and heavy eye make-up, but you suppose that isn't really your call. It's not as if Clara is seeing patients or other members of the public.

You leave the hospital administration office and look for June Phillips before you start your next round of the wards. Maybe the young redheaded nurse, as the other victim of Mary Forbes' strange hypnotic suggestions, might have some insight. Was she already a lesbian, or curious? Or was June like you, feeling no erotic interest in other women until today?
