The tough, scrappy and intelligent Shield officer has worked under Nick Fury for years. She's a master soldier who now lives in a world of super powers. She has to work with the Avengers, who she is somewhat distrustful of. They feel the same about Maria and Shield in general.
At times Maria has stood in for Fury as the head of Shield. She has to put in extra work to be taken seriously, both as a beautiful woman in a male dominated industry and a regular human who has to deal with super heroes. Unfortunately this was about to be a whole lot harder because Maria was about to be exposed in public!
