History class

I try my best to focus on the lesson and make notes but it is really not easy.

It is already late and to make matters worse it is history! I hate history class. It is boring and you won't need it in your life anyway. Anna seems to share my sentiment and I think she is sleeping behind her textbook with her head and hands resting on the desk.

Finally the school bell rings marking the end of class and releasing us home for today.

"Can there be anything more boring than history class?" Anna yawns and packs in her stuff together.

"I don't like history much but my mum thinks all school subjects are important."

Talking with Anna reminds me of the last whipping I received from my mum as punishment for returning with a D in an history test two years ago. I had to put my hands on my desk and present her my bare bottom. My mum did give me ten hard lashes with her rattan cane that day. It really hurt and I could not sit down without pain for two days straight. My mum believes that pain is needed for my education and maybe she is right as my history marks did improve greatly.

I pack my own stuff together and we leave the school building.

"Thank you very much for today Anna. You are a good friend."

"No need to thank me Lisa. See you tomorrow." Anna replies as we both part ways at the school gate, because her house is located in a different direction. I remember that I can get my school books now.
