Ed grew up in a quiet cul de sac in a nice quiet respectable neighbourhood, nothing bad had ever really happened to him until he was 8 when his dad died in an accident.

The trauma of this event could have taken his life in many different directions but his mom, Holly, was a strong woman who avoided despair and instead concentrated on raising her son as best she could as a widowed mother. Luckily he had his friend Manollo living next door and they could at least go over to each other's houses to play computer games. Manollo was more of a jock type and enjoyed Ed's company as his slightly geeky wingman.

Despite his supportive mother and positive female influences in his life he never seemed to get very far with girls, he made female friends easily but he never seemed to get out of 'friend zone' to such an extent people assumed he was gay (much to his mom's delight).
