ENCOUNTER the Headmistress

You enter the Great Hall and find that the greeting session has devolved from the well-ordered bun-struggle the Headmistress must have intended into a clamorous free-for-all, with students talking loudly and crowding round trays of teacups and delicacies. The Heads of House Leontes, Minerval, and Beavertail are present, greeting new and returning students of their Houses, but at Draconis' table, the Tutor, Barnaby Ffoulkes, is holding the space. Anastasia regards Ffoulkes as an officious nonentity, but not hard to work round once you know his ways. But where is your Housemistress, Boarbristle's Headmistress Pernilla Porcinilla?

A moment of searching people's faces and listening carefully orients you toward the Headmistress's brassy voice declaiming something from behind the kitchen door. Well, faint heart ne'er won fair lady, and perhaps this would be a good time to greet her ahead of everyone else.

You press through the door to the kitchen.

You see Mistress Porcinilla in profile. She is wearing robes of Draconis green, tailored of rich fabric to flatter her figure. Once upon a time, you had heard, she was an athlete, with a swimmer's solid, compact build. With advancement and with diligent pursuit of her specialty in alimentations had come prosperity, expanding her curves with her dignity, and now her stately figure is rounded in each contour. Her hair is blonde and wavy, styled in a modern, un-fussy shape. The tone of her voice seems to be settling down from complaint toward satisfaction, increasingly so as she samples one of the sweetmeats from a cooling tray. You're baffled that you can't make out a word of it until you realize Mistress Porcinilla is conversing with a cook with the aid of a Babel spell, to conceal any secret details of the recipe.

You straighten your Draconis uniform and wait for the right moment to catch her attention.
