bowling

"It's a surprise." Nathan said with a mysterious smile. He started driving. Lauren was totally unsure where they were going until they pulled to stop in front of... a bowling alley?

"Uh, we're going here?" Lauren asked, unsure.

"Yeah!" Nathan said. "I thought it would be fun!"

Lauren wasn't sure about that. A woman of her stature shouldn't be in public playing childish games. Still, it was a little premature to just blow the whole thing off. So, sighing with resignation, Lauren followed Nathan into the alley.

The bowling alley was crowded, almost exclusively with older men. Lauren had been hoping for a four star restaurant, not a stuff old bowling alley.

It seemed Nathan played regularly, for he'd brought his own shoes. After he paid for a lane the attendant turned to Lauren.

"What size shoes?" He asked.

"Uh, four please." Lauren said. Then, remembering how this worked she slipped off her heels... and instantly shrank four inches! She shivered, feeling small, her stockinged feet cold on the tile floor. The attendant took her heels, then slipped her a pair of dorky bowling shoes to put on. Lauren laced them, then followed Nathan to the lane. Without her heels, Lauren was now almost a foot shorter then her date! Though it wasn't a big deal it bothered her. Her heels were part of her ensemble! They were required for her look.

Nathan picked out a ball. Then, standing in front of the pins for a moment, he stepped up and threw a perfect strike. A few people nearby clapped at his display as he returned to Lauren.

"So, do you bowl a lot?" Lauren asked.

"Yeah, did as a kid with my dad, and I still like to keep it up." Nathan explained. Lauren felt that Nathan was a diminishing boyfriend prospect, but kept her opinion to herself. Instead she scooped up a suprisingly heavy ball, stepped up to the lane, and threw the ball....
