... an important event occurs:
Reinforcements arrive to us from Rome
The reinforcements whe had asked for arrive at least! Under the command of the Legate Aurelius, legionaries disembark in the port and range themselves in the plain out of the town. Joined by the local troops and my own cavalry men, it makes two entire legions ready to crush the barbarians.
Our enemies have understood that the only way to maintain their grasp on the town was to fight and defeat us in the open field. The second battle of Tarraco begins.
While the foot-soldiers clash, my mission is to contain the charge of the barbarian cavalry. The Germanic riders break over us. At their head, I descry a tall figure in a war chariot pulled by two white horses. Bare-chested and helmeted, she brandishes a spear and exhorts the warriors to charge.
Yes, "she": the leader of the barbarians is a woman, and it is towards her that I guide my horse. She recognizes me as the chief of the Roman cavalry: even at distance, and through the dust raised by the hundreds of hoofs trampling the ground, I see her eyes flame, and her chariot dashes to meet me.
