A proposal...
"I...," he stammered. He had always been careful to use protection whenever he slept with women, knowing full well most of them were gold diggers who wanted a share of his billions.
"If I am, I know you can afford child support for the next eighteen years," she joked.
A baby, he thought. There's a chance I can be a father. He had dedicated his life to fighting crime and nothing for himself other than maintain the ruse of a rich, carefree playboy. A child would bring some normalcy to his life as much as it could given that the child's parents would be Batman and Catwoman. Dick, Jason, and Tim were his sons, albeit through adoption, but a part of him wanted a biological child to bear the Wayne family name and bloodline.
Selina sensed his hesitation and realized that he took her joke seriously. "I can get a morning after pill if you're worried," she said, rolling over to face him.
"No," he replied. "I never thought of having a baby even though I have three sons."
"The Robins?" she interrupted.
"Yes, but they were all orphans when I adopted them," he answered.
"You're an even better man than I thought, Bruce."
"Enough to have a baby with me?" he smiled, something she had never seen him do with the mask on.
"Slow down, big boy. If that's suppose to be a proposal you have to remember this is technically our first date!"
"I guess I should return the pink diamond engagement ring then?" he said dryly.
Selina eyed him trying to figure out if he was lying or not. She could never read his poker face. "Bullshit."
Bruce rolled over and reached into the night stand drawer and fished out a small box. He grinned at the sight of her face when he revealed a ring more valuable than some mansions.
"Why do you have that lying around?" she whispered, slowly reaching out to touch the ring. But before she could he quickly snapped the box closed.
"This belonged to my mother," he replied, putting the ring away. "You weren't my first love, by the way. Someone said no..."
"She was a fool," she whispered, kissing him lightly. "I'm glad you trust me to leave the ring there."
"And I trust you to keep my secret identity."
She stared into his blue eyes, which she was never able to when he wore his cowl, and brushed his cheek lovingly. "I think this is your mask."
"Are you hungry?" he asked, changing the subject away from that was uncomfortably soul wrenching sensitive. "Alfred is an amazing cook."
Selina nodded. "He does everything, doesn't he?"
"You don't know the half of it," Bruce replied with a smirk as he grabbed the cordless phone.
"Hungry from your workout, sir?"
"Yes, Alfred. I'll take the usual."
"And for Ms. Kyle?"
"What would you like?" Bruce turned to his lover.
"Chicken club sandwich," she answered, playing with his chest hairs. "And Champagne."
"I got that, Master Bruce. Twenty minutes, sir."
"Thank you, Alfred."
"The food will be ready in twenty minutes."
"So what can we do to keep busy in the meantime?" she teased, kissing him.
