Chapter 11
by Cantalope
Does anything spy Lara, naked, by the waterfall?
She finds shelter.
The voices of the wolves multiplied, throwing up a chorus straight out of a horror movie. Lara almost burst into laughter from the absurdity of the situation: stranded, naked...transformed, and now there were wolves. She took a shaky breath, reigning in her hysteria as she frantically searched for shelter. There was just the cliff (made of rock too brittle to climb), the forest (where the wolves would surely just wait her out), and the water...hm. She dipped a toe in the water and recoiled. Just as cold as earlier, minus the warmth of the sun.
The wolves seemed to be getting louder as she weighed her options. She wouldn't enjoy it and she surely couldn't spend all night in the freezing water...but it was starting to look like it was her only chance. Bracing herself, she waded into the water and made for the protective curtain of the waterfall. An involuntary gasp escaped her lips as her genitalia encountered the icy water and quickly called a retreat into her body. She sucked air in and out through her teeth as she bit down on the myriad of curses she wanted to scream as the icy curtain spilled over her, hopefully there was a hollow she could shelter in...Oh.
The mouth of a small cave yawned at her just above the water level. Eager to be free of the warmth-sapping water Lara clambered up into the opening, peering into the darkness as her eyes adjusted. It was surprisingly warm in the cave, she could almost swear it was even warmer than outside, though it could just be the lack of cold water. The passage continued upwards several feet before dipping out of sight. She caught herself examining the rocks, trying to determine the geology, before stifling a fit of giggles.
"No. Stop it Lara. Deep breaths, stay in control..."
She listened carefully for the wolves, trying to catch a glimpse through the waterfall without drawing too much attention. She thought she spied a few shapes and heard a low snuffling over by her clothes but she couldn't tell from her current vantage point. 'Well, no point in risking it. It's not so bad in here, I'll just wait a bit.'
She found herself peering back into the cave in spite of herself. Curiosity was gnawing at her...but there were a whole list of reasons why it wouldn't be safe to go exploring underground and her primary goal was surviving.
Does she succumb to curiosity?
