Miss (Plan to see a movie)

You come back to the table with Fairouzeh, who is noticeably bright-eyed after doing Mona's eye make-up and whatever else happened in the bathroom before they exchanged numbers.

"Hey, Mona said she's off in a couple of hours and wanted to get together," Fairouzeh said. "Joe wants to come along too."

"And?" Tara asks.

You spin out your plans for an exciting evening with Mona, Fairouzeh, and the other girls, and each time you suggest something, one of them shoots it down. From the looks on their faces, especially Tara and Jennifer, it seems like they're playing with you.

After you've run out of suggestions, Kath pipes up. "Hey, isn't there a late night showing of A League of Their Own?" she says.

Jennifer laughs. "Well, it's no Personal Best, but that could be fun."

"It's a benefit for the college women's sports teams," Kath says, reading from her mobile. She laughs. "Free popcorn if you show up in a sports uniform."

"You're so there, I'm sure," Tara says.

"Hey, and it's a double feature," Kath says.

"With what?" Jennifer asks.

"Whip It! Drew Barrymore's roller derby movie!"

The girls nod and agree to meet up for the movie, though you're not sure Fairouzeh and Mona will stick around for the whole thing. You manage to talk yourself into tagging along.

It'll be a couple hours till the movie, so you have a chance to go home and change. But unless you can charm the gals better than you're doing so far, you suspect you might be on the end of the row next to some girl's sharp elbow. But it'll be a theatre full of college sports girls. Well, then.
