Do you vent to your online mother, or do you keep your problems to yourself?
Vent to your online mother
You sigh and begin typing, “hey, mom. today's been rough... my dad and I got into a fight, and I'm going to be moving out by next month.”
“oh, honey! I'm so sorry to hear that! are you ok?” she responds.
“as good as I can be... I already made plans to move in temporarily with Yelena until I can get my own place.”
“well, that's good to hear... you know, I wish I lived closer. I'd take care of you.”
You pause before typing anything in response. While you have known Yelena and her family for years, you have only known your online mother for a few months. Yet, you smile as you think of her kindness and support during that time. Despite everything going on in your life, she is always supportive and even finds a way to calm you at your worst.
“I know, mom. you're so thoughtful, but I really couldn't do that to you,” you type.
“it really wouldn't be an issue, silly. I have an extra bedroom, and I could even help you find a job—but I'm glad that Yelena is there for you. things will work out! and, I'll always be here to listen when you need to get something off your chest.”
“thanks, mom. I really appreciate it...”
Your mind begins racing. Sure, you already have a job, but it is only part-time, and you really do not work many hours. Living on your current salary would be near to impossible. Maybe she was right, you think to yourself. But, you have your doubts. She lives across the Atlantic. Moving that far? It seems like it would be a hassle to initiate. However, you do have savings from working the last couple of years that you had planned on using to buy a vehicle...
Do you keep talking to your online mother, or do you go back to talking to Yelena?
