Chapter 5

So what do you do? Try to fake a quick work shift at the park or blow it off?
Try to fake your way through the day
Ok, ok, you obviously couldn't let yourself get fired. Being a girl was only going to last a couple of days but getting canned would land you in hot water for the next six months at the very least. All you needed to do was pop down to the park, pretend to be a new hire while using your own punch card, work a quick shift, and then get back home before your boss could catch word about it. That wouldn't be too hard. Hell it'd actually help kill off some of the time on this damn curse. Yeah, this is going to work out just fine.
With your mind made up you quickly started to rummage through your closet again. Work shirt... work shirt... where the hell could it- oh here we go. Despite your new body it actually seemed to fit pretty well. No doubt because Tony had been too cheap to buy spring for proper uniforms and instead bought a case of one-size-fits-all button ups for everyone on the staff. Still, it was something of a blessing to find something more fitting than a t-shirt. A seconds to slip on some sneakers and you were out the door. This plan was going to work, you could feel it.
The city park itself was pretty nice in all honesty. A public baseball field took up must of the park and not far from it was a sizable playground currently under siege by a group of grade-schoolers. A number of walking trails cut through the park proper and lead down various paths in the nearby woods that saw constant use by joggers. Somewhere past the baseball field was a fenced in basketball court and just beyond that a court for tennis as well. Finally to one side was the Snack Shack. The building wasn't exactly impressive but it more than served its purpose. More of a snack bar than proper eatery it was large enough to hold maybe three or four employees that would help the customers that would approach the front window for chips, soda, or the rare order of nachos. Honestly it wasn't a half bad job. During the weekdays it was usually slow enough that an entire shift could be run with a only two people and during the dead of the afternoon you could go hours without a customer.
Alright, all you needed to do was knock on the door and hope to god Tony hadn't decided to pick today to actually supervise his business. A quick knock and... oh thank god, it's only Cody. Cody Whitman. He was another guy that went to school with you and was your usual partner in crime while working the Snack Shack. Just as much of a slacker as you were and always willing to help a guy out if you needed an alibi.
"Can I help you?" he queried after opening the door.
"Yeah, hiiiii..." you started in a tone that you hoped sounded friendly and sincere. "I'm the new employee that Mr. Cassiano hired for the Shack. Today is supposed to be my first day."
Cody raised an eyebrow for a moment. "First day, huh? That's weird. Tony didn't say anything about anyone new being brought it. Infact he said that I should be expecting John this afternoon or, and I quote, 'that lousy lazy punk is gonna be out on his ass'."
Fuck. Come on Cody, now wasn't the time to be a good employee!
"Look, John REALLY can't make it today." you said, offering up something a little closer to the actual truth. "He asked if I could show up, clock in for him, and run his shift without anyone noticing. Come on, man. He REALLY needs you to do him a solid and let me cover for him."
Does Cody let you cover your own shift or are you going to have to call this a loss?
