"I... I guess June or Ash will be the best. I guess." You said after a few moments to think about it. "You're gonna possess them like Carrie? Or-"

"Or, I could probably..." Cari interrupted, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "...I, or Emi, kept Carrie awake, right? What if... I don't know, I possess one of them and like... I make them think that everything I do, they're doing? That way they don't black out or anything. Like the idea or..."

"You're supposed to be smart, you think it'll work?"

"Only one way to find out, right?" Cari asked with a shrug. "Worst case, just..." She paused, waving her hand in the air. "You know?"

"Mind control them?" You asked, just to be sure. Cari nodded without hesitation. "If you think it's a good idea, then go for it."

"What are we waiting for then? Make me all ghost-y and-"

"And?"

"AND... I'll leave it up to you to figure out who I'm inside! No cheating with the ring or anything!" Cari chirped, kissing your ear. "Sounds fun, right?"

"How exactly am I gonna figure it out?" You asked, more than a little nervous about how your supposed stepsisters might act.

"Little things. At first. But if you don't figure it out-"

"What if I make a wrong guess?"

"Hmmm..." Cari murmured, pursing her lips together. "I mean, I'm still 'a ghost' until I rematerialize again. Maybe I can choose to like, swap around? Like shuffling the deck?"

"I... I guess that's fair." You sighed. "So... June or Ash to start, and if I make a wrong guess-"

"Your mom'll be brought in. Maybe. Or your dad, but..." Cari paused, giggling. "...I don't think that'll happen!"

"I guess that works." You sighed, sitting up with a grunt...

It took around twenty minutes of flying around, grabbing phones, sending texts, that sort of thing. Lies like Ava was staying at Luna's house for the night, and Luna at Ava's. Henri was "stuck" overnight at Emily's house with a group project. Carrie and Emily, being the supposed "angels" needed nothing more than promises that they'd call if anything went wrong on their "sleepovers". Honestly, you were a bit jealous. Your mom would've called every other parent to make sure no one was lying, maybe even stopping by with some excuse to make sure you were actually there. Regardless, they were in the clear. And you held onto all their phones, for the time being. Just in case.

Dinner was... a bit awkward. Juniper or... probably Juniper complained about college professors most of the time. Ashley, like usual, had to get scolded about bringing a book to the dinner table. There weren't too many questions about your day. Mostly just stuff like "if you had a good time" and if you were caught up with homework, having spent the day "goofing off at the mall". Nothing really stood out, honestly. And you felt more than a little paranoid, wondering if Cari had broken the rules and was actually inside your mom or dad. Or if she was there at all, really...
