Fight them

You gather your magic power and you hurl a roaring fireball straight into one of the wagons. The explosion is impressive, wood splinters into the road, the flames devour one of the wagons in an instant. Several gnomes scream as they’re reduced to cinders.

But the survivors don’t flee.
The gnome leader appears, showing his ridiculous mustache and a powerful magic wand. "You will pay for this!" he shouts.

You cast a sleep spell before they can react… but it does nothing.
