Chapter 89 by nick_123
What's next?
Another Day, Another Event
The room buzzed with quiet intensity, the kind of tension reserved for only the most exclusive gatherings. This time, you found yourself at the Global Leadership Summit, an ultra-high-class event held annually at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. The purpose was clear: this was where the world’s top minds in business, politics, and philanthropy gathered to discuss the future of global initiatives, forge alliances, and showcase their power. Damian Kane, the man who held your fate in his hands, was, of course, in attendance.
It had been three days since the Pinnacle Forum, and you’d been keeping busy. Vincent had called on you once more after your lecture—another rendezvous in his car, another Forget-Me-Mint swallowed, another $250 folded neatly into your bra by the end of it. As much as you hated the arrangement, it was undeniably necessary to keep your bank account alive. Vincent, however, wasn’t high class enough for tonight, and so, once again, you found yourself on Richard Solano’s arm as his plus one.
Your outfit tonight was one of your newer purchases, a dress that screamed sophistication with a seductive edge: the black fitted cocktail dress. Its sleek fabric clung to your curves like a second skin, accentuating the swell of your hips and the curve of your waist before tapering down mid-thigh. The neckline plunged just low enough to tease the tops of your C-cup breasts without crossing into vulgarity, while the delicate spaghetti straps bared your shoulders. The slit on one side hinted at the creamy length of your thigh, every step revealing a flash of smooth skin.
Underneath, you wore a set of matching black lace lingerie—a bra that gave you the perfect lift, and panties that sat snugly against your hips, the lace so intricate it almost felt like a sin to cover them. Your black stiletto heels gave you an extra boost in height and completed the ensemble, their glossy finish catching the soft glow of the chandeliers above.
Your makeup was a careful balance of elegance and allure. A flawless base of foundation evened out your complexion, a soft contour sculpting your cheekbones. Your eyes were framed with smoky shades of black and charcoal, accented by a thin, precise wing of eyeliner that made them pop. A nude lipstick graced your lips, keeping the focus on your dramatic eyes while maintaining an air of class.

Currently, you were cozied up next to Richard in one of the opulent lounge areas. The plush velvet couch seemed to envelop you both, and the intimacy of your position—your thigh pressed lightly against his, your hand resting just above his knee—was impossible to miss. You felt Richard’s subtle possessiveness as his arm settled over the back of the couch, brushing your bare shoulder.
Across from you sat Damian Kane. His imposing presence was magnified even in a room filled with titans of industry. Dressed in a perfectly tailored navy suit that exuded power, his dark eyes locked with Richard’s as they exchanged words about business strategies and global initiatives. His voice was low, measured, commanding.
But it wasn’t Damian who had your attention at the moment.
Beside him sat a woman who could have stepped straight out of a magazine. She was stunning—no, breathtaking. Her honey-blonde hair fell in soft waves over her shoulders, the kind of effortlessly styled look that screamed wealth and influence. Her complexion was flawless, her skin glowing with the kind of radiance that made you wonder what products she used.
Her outfit was a masterpiece of understated luxury: a fitted ivory sheath dress that hugged her hourglass figure perfectly. The neckline was high, but the back dipped scandalously low, exposing the smooth curve of her spine. A pair of silver stilettos adorned her feet, adding an extra layer of elegance. She wore a delicate diamond necklace that rested just above the swell of her generous chest, and her earrings sparkled under the ambient light.
Her makeup was impeccable—soft yet striking. A neutral palette brought out her features beautifully: subtle eyeshadow, perfectly blended, and a light coral lipstick that gave her lips a natural, kissable hue. Her nails were manicured to perfection, painted in a classic French tip style.

You couldn’t help but feel a pang of inadequacy as you compared yourself to her. She exuded class, refinement, and an effortless confidence that made you feel clumsy and out of place. She seemed like the kind of woman Damian would naturally gravitate toward—someone who could command attention without even trying.
You shifted slightly in your seat, trying not to let the thoughts consume you. But as you glanced at her again, the feeling only grew stronger. You would need to do better—be better—if you were going to stand a chance of getting Damian’s attention and progressing this trial.
Richard’s hand shifted slightly on the back of the couch, drawing you out of your thoughts. His voice was calm and assured as he engaged Damian, and you took the opportunity to refocus, leaning into Richard slightly as if to emphasize your connection. If Damian took notice, he didn’t show it.
For now, all you could do was play your part and hope for an opening. This was your chance to prove yourself—or to fall even further behind.
The conversation between Richard and Damian was intense. Words like “vertical integration,” “proprietary platforms,” and “geopolitical alignment” were tossed back and forth like currency. Sitting beside Richard, you tried your best to follow the thread, but the depth of their discussion was overwhelming. Every now and then, Richard would glance your way and flash a subtle smile, as if to check in, but your attention was focused on Damian.
He radiated power. From the way he leaned back slightly, completely in control of the conversation, to the sharp precision of his words, he commanded respect without even trying. His dark brown eyes flickered between Richard and the table in front of him as he spoke, calculating, piercing, and completely engrossed in the topic at hand. It was impossible not to notice the way his sharp jaw tensed when he made a point or the faint smirk that played at the corner of his lips when Richard conceded to one of his arguments.
Seated beside him was the stunning woman from earlier. As the conversation ebbed and flowed, she listened attentively, her fingers lightly grazing the stem of a delicate champagne flute. Occasionally, she’d lean over to whisper something to Damian, her coral-painted lips moving in a way that seemed almost hypnotic.
“Angelica,” she’d introduced herself earlier, her voice smooth and melodic, the kind that left an impression long after she’d spoken. It suited her—an ethereal name for a woman who looked like she belonged on a pedestal.
You caught her glancing your way now and then, a polite smile on her face, but there was something assessing in her gaze, as though she were sizing you up. You weren’t sure if it was curiosity or competition, but either way, you didn’t let it rattle you. You smiled back each time, your posture poised, trying to mirror the effortless elegance she exuded.
As the conversation between the men continued, you focused on your posture and your expression, remembering Richard’s advice to sit pretty and stay composed. But then Damian said something that made your ears perk up.
“Of course, integrating sustainable practices at the core of the supply chain isn’t just a moral imperative—it’s a business one,” Damian said, his voice low and commanding. “Clients expect it, investors demand it, and frankly, it’s the only way to future-proof any operation in today’s world.”
The words hung in the air, and you felt a sudden urge to contribute. You weren’t sure why—maybe it was the heat of the room, maybe it was the champagne Richard had poured you earlier—but you leaned forward slightly, your voice steady despite the fluttering in your chest.
“Not just future-proofing, but gaining a competitive edge,” you interjected, keeping your tone soft yet confident. “Sustainability isn’t just about meeting expectations—it’s about exceeding them. Consumers today aren’t just loyal to brands that align with their values; they’re advocates for them. A company leading in sustainability doesn’t just future-proof; it sets the standard that others will have to follow.”
The table went quiet.
You felt your heart hammering in your chest as Damian turned his attention fully to you for the first time. His eyes locked onto yours, scrutinizing, assessing. You held your breath, wondering if you’d just made a fool of yourself, but then—
“You’re absolutely right,” he said, a hint of surprise in his tone. “That’s a perspective not many people in this industry articulate, and it’s refreshing to hear. What’s your name again?”
“Luna,” you said, your voice soft but steady.
Damian leaned back in his seat, his expression contemplative. “Well, Luna, it’s not often I meet someone who can cut through the noise with a point like that. Richard, where have you been hiding her?”
Richard chuckled, draping his arm casually along the back of the couch behind you. “Would you believe me if I said she’s new to this scene? Natural talent.”
Damian’s smirk deepened, and the tension at the table shifted. Where before there was a weighty air of business, the mood lightened, becoming more relaxed, even playful.
“You’re full of surprises, Richard,” Damian said, picking up his glass and swirling its contents lazily. “And you, Luna, what brings you to this event? Trying to set the world on fire, or are you just along for the ride?”
You hesitated for a moment, then smiled, leaning into the flirtatious tone of the conversation. “Why not both?” you teased, earning a laugh from Damian and an amused smile from Angelica.
The shift in conversation brought Angelica into the spotlight as well. Damian gestured toward her. “Angelica here thinks I spend too much time working and not enough time enjoying life. She’s been trying to convince me to take up yoga of all things. What about you, Luna? Are you a yoga enthusiast too?”
“I’d like to be,” you said, laughing lightly. “But I’m more of a ‘watch a YouTube video and pretend I worked out’ kind of person.”
Angelica giggled, her demeanor warm and inviting now. “Honestly, same. Damian likes to make it sound like I’m this paragon of health, but I only go to yoga for the cute outfits.”
The group laughed, and for the first time all evening, you felt like you belonged.
Damian took a sip from his glass, his sharp eyes scanning the table before settling on you. “So, Luna, you’ve clearly got a brain for business,” he started, his tone lighter than before. “But I’m curious—what do you do for fun? Don’t tell me you’re all work and no play.”
You hesitated, the weight of his attention pressing on you, but you **** a casual smile. “Fun? That’s a luxury I’m still trying to figure out,” you replied with a playful shrug. “But when I do get the chance? Movies, maybe. Or the occasional attempt at cooking… emphasis on ‘attempt.’”
“Cooking, huh?” Damian’s eyebrow quirked in amusement, and even Angelica’s lips twitched in a small smile. “What’s your specialty? Or is it one of those situations where you set off the smoke alarm and call it a night?”
“Oh, I’m well acquainted with the smoke alarm,” you admitted with a laugh. “But hey, I make a mean pasta if you don’t mind the sauce coming from a jar.”
Angelica giggled, her laugh melodic. “Pasta’s a classic. I’m the same, honestly. Damian likes to act like I’m some health guru because I go to yoga, but my fridge is 90% takeout containers.”
Damian shook his head, his smirk deepening. “You could at least lie to make me look good, Angelica.”
“Oh, please,” she shot back. “Like you’re any better? Your idea of a balanced meal is steak and scotch.”
The table chuckled, and you couldn’t help but chime in. “Steak and scotch? That sounds pretty balanced to me. Protein, carbs… liquid courage.”
Damian laughed—a rich, genuine sound that felt like a small victory. “Finally, someone gets it,” he said, raising his glass in a mock toast. “You’ve got good taste, Luna.”
“I try,” you replied smoothly, feeling a little more at ease.
Damian leaned back in his chair, swirling the amber liquid in his glass with a lazy confidence. His sharp gaze settled on you again, a flicker of amusement tugging at the corner of his lips. "Alright, Luna, let’s skip the boring stuff. No more art talk. Let’s get to the good questions."
You tilted your head, meeting his gaze. “The good questions? I’m almost afraid to ask what that means.”
Angelica laughed softly beside him, sipping her champagne. “Oh, don’t worry. His version of ‘good’ usually involves embarrassing hypotheticals.”
Damian shot her a smirk before turning his full attention back to you. “Here’s one for you, then: If you were stranded on a desert island, what’s the one thing you’d bring? And no cheating—‘a boat’ is off the table.”
You raised a brow, trying to think on your feet. “Hmm… I guess I’d bring someone interesting to keep me entertained. Maybe someone who’s good at building things—or at least good at keeping the conversation going.”
“Interesting,” Damian said, his smirk deepening. “Basically, you’re saying you’d bring me.”
Richard chuckled, leaning back in his seat. “Smooth.”
“Oh, incredibly smooth,” you replied, leaning forward slightly with a teasing smile. “But who says you’d be entertaining enough for me to pick you?”
Damian raised his glass, his grin widening. “Fair enough. You’re feisty. I like that.”
Angelica chimed in with a playful roll of her eyes. “That’s his way of saying he’s already imagining himself as the king of your little island.”
You laughed, feeling a strange sense of ease in the conversation. “Well, someone has to rule, right? But what about you, Damian? What’s your desert island pick?”
He didn’t miss a beat. “Easy. A beautiful woman who knows how to keep me on my toes.” His gaze lingered on you just a moment too long, the unspoken implication hanging in the air. “Gotta keep things interesting.”
Angelica shook her head with mock exasperation. “Of course. Leave it to you to make survival sound like a rom-com.”
Damian shrugged, unabashed. “Hey, if I’m stuck somewhere, might as well enjoy it.”
Richard chuckled, looking at you knowingly. “You’re holding your own with him better than most people manage.”
“Oh, I’ve handled tougher personalities than this,” you shot back, keeping the playful energy going. “Besides, he’s not that intimidating.”
Damian raised a brow, his smirk sharpening. “Not intimidating? Careful now, Luna. I might have to prove you wrong.”
You leaned back in your chair, matching his confidence. “I’m not easily intimidated. You’ll have to try harder than that.”
Angelica laughed, glancing between the two of you. “God, this is better than any of the conversations we’ve had at these things.”
Damian glanced her way briefly. “That’s because you don’t flirt nearly as well as she does.”
You felt your cheeks warm, but you didn’t let it throw you off. “Flirting? I was just answering your questions.”
“Oh, is that what you were doing?” he asked, his grin playful and predatory. “Because if that’s just you answering, I’d love to see what it looks like when you’re really trying.”
Richard cleared his throat, clearly amused by the back-and-forth. “Damian, don’t scare her off.”
“She doesn’t look scared to me,” Damian replied, his eyes never leaving yours.
You took a sip of your drink, trying to maintain your composure. “I’m not. Like I said, I’ve dealt with tougher personalities.”
Damian chuckled, leaning in slightly. “I might take that as a challenge.”
Angelica, sensing the heat in the air, interjected with a teasing grin. “Alright, before this turns into a full-on seduction contest, I’ve got a question for you, Luna. What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done?”
You hesitated for half a second, caught off guard by the question. But then, with Damian’s sharp eyes on you, you decided to lean into the moment. “Daring? Hmm… Let’s just say I’ve found myself in situations that required a lot of quick thinking and confidence.”
“That’s vague,” Damian said, clearly intrigued. “Care to elaborate?”
You smirked, deciding to tease him. “Maybe later. If you’re lucky.”
His grin widened, the challenge clearly sparking something in him. “I’ll hold you to that.”
Angelica laughed again, shaking her head. “You two are something else. You know I'm sat right here, right?”
As the conversation continued, the atmosphere around the table grew warmer, the banter flowing easily. You managed to keep things light and flirty, deflecting when needed but always keeping his attention locked on you.
By the end of the conversation, it was clear: you had Damian Kane’s attention.
