Chapter 21 by WiltedTiger
Round Three Begins
Sam’s III Turn (Privacy, Purrfectly Happy, One for All, Perfect Body Functioning)
“Round Three is about to begin; I wish you all luck,” Ralph said, noticing how energetic the Tokens were.
“I hope this goes well,” Sam said as he grabbed his first card deftly.
“You should be fine. Nothing too bad has come out of the game yet,” Bernard said, trying to encourage Sam.
“Speak for yourself,” Oscar said, a little annoyed at the cards he drew last round.
As Sam went to grab the card, it turned green, causing everyone to be on the edge of their seats, worrying what the new rule would be, seeing the Snow Leopard Token pounce forward six spaces.
“Privacy: By declaring ‘Private!’ you can make a card private and unviewable to others and unshareable by those who know unless they are given permission. The owner of the ‘privated’ card chooses who can view and share the information on the card. In exchange for ‘privating’ a card, a random future card will be temporarily ‘privated’ to you for twenty-four hours; this may occur in this game or a future one. Move six. Draw two from the main deck and private at least one,” Sam read, relieved that nothing extreme happened to the rules.
“That’s actually a good addition, so if we are too embarrassed about it or want to surprise someone, we can,” Bernard said, with a sigh of relief as he was thinking how it could be nice with more embarrassing or personal cards with the others agreeing.
“Hurry up and grab the next one. I want to get this round over with so that I can catch the premiere episode of Depths Explored,” Calvin said excitedly.
“Okay,” Sam replied as he grabbed the next card and read it to himself before saying, “Private!” while turning red. He felt a warmth spread through his chest while the Snow Leopard Token was leisurely sauntering forward four spaces.
The card in question read ‘Purrfectly Happy: Gain the ability to purr at will. Begin purring unconsciously when experiencing large amounts of positive stimuli. Move four.’
The others noticed Sam’s face turning red. Deciding to be considerate, the others chose not to question Sam about the card he drew, and Sam didn’t seem to want to tell them either as he quickly grabbed the next card.
As Sam began reading the card, all the Tokens became alert, as if they were waiting for something.
“One for All: The next card is copied and given to all Players. Other players will not experience the movement brought by the card, nor will it count as a card they drew this turn. Move a number of spaces equal to the number of players. Draw one from the main deck. This card disappears after the next card is drawn. UN-NEGATABLE,” Sam read, and with each word, more color drained from his face; as he was doing so, his Token was cautiously taking steps to move six spaces forward.
“Sorry,” Sam said to the group.
“Why are you sorry? You didn’t choose to draw a fourth card; if it is bad, you can probably just use your Pass-Permanence card. Besides, I’m not getting a bad feeling,” Bernard said as he shifted closer to Sam, with the others agreeing.
“All you can do is hope it’s not bad. Anyways, it is not your fault; the game is just like this at times,” Ralph added.
With encouragement from the others, Sam decided to quickly get this over with, hoping it would not be too bad. As Sam grabbed the card, it turned a bright crimson red with a subtle gold glow, while the Tokens showed looks of relief, the gold glow and Tokens' actions going unnoticed by everyone.
“Perfect Body Functioning: Your body is now beyond perfect efficiency, meaning it will no longer be damaged when doing natural processes or be damaged by the byproducts, be immune to viruses, diseases, and moderate doses of carcinogens, immediately eliminate waste or dangers in or to your body as soon as it is created and when willed or needed if consumed, and undo the damage done to your body in the future quickly and pre-existing damage slowly. In exchange, a random card from your next round will become permanent after you end the round, and you will be rendered a slave to all your desires and will do anything to accomplish them until the next round begins; certain desires and actions are exempted and prevented. These desires and actions are murder, suicide, maiming, overthrowing the government, selling your body, mind, or soul,” Sam was reading.
“Take it!” Ralph interrupted, “The benefits far outweigh any negatives that any of you could possibly create because of the time loop.”
“Fine, but let me finish …” Sam started saying.
Before Sam could finish his sentence, the game took that as Sam accepting the card and materialized a copy of the card in every player’s hands, as the One for All card disappeared.
“I’m still finishing it,” Sam said, annoyed, before picking up where he left off, reading through the rest of the long list of prevented desires and actions that could be summed up to ‘desires or actions that cause serious or lingering harm to the player or others.’
“The entire duration of being a slave to your desires, your body and mind will be experiencing the effects of maximum libido and the unrestrainedness of being drunk. After the end, you will vividly remember your feelings, thoughts, and actions. This takes effect at the end of the round. Move negative six. Permanent,” Sam finished reading, worried about what they might do.
“You better be right about this, Ralph,” Jammie said.
“I’ll do my best to keep you guys from doing anything too extreme,” Ralph said.
“Man, I really wanted to catch the live premiere,” Calvin sighed.
“You’ll just have to wait until next week,” Kevin said.
“Let’s hope it goes well. I end my turn,” Sam said, worried about what could happen later.
How does Bernard's turn go?
