Chapter 4
by gothamalleyviper
What's next?
A super happy fun afternoon (not really)
The lab was a mess, some one popped off incendiary grenades in the animal cages and trashed the paperwork.
“Agent Burton!” one of the Troopers said from chalk board that had been stripped of it’s paperwork.
Chris and Barry walked over.
“What is it, Johnson?” Barry asked.
Chris saw the name tape sown on the back of the armored vest as he walked closer.
“This is where the map was,” Johnson said pointing at an area outlined by chalk dust, “This burn mark means they light the map on the floor on fire here and then tore it down and stomped it out when it was on the floor, right?”
“Seems solid,” Chris said looking from the boot prints to the ashen footprints on the floor and the burned ash that had been the majority of the map, “What else?”
“I was thinking of a scene in a comic I read with my kid,” Johnson said, “The villain burned a map to set the world on fire, she started at a bottom corner…”
“Ok,” Barry said, “So shouldn’t the corner be burned and the scorch mark be at the corner?”
“Right, but instead they lit around this area here on the map,” Johnson pointed at a missing area that corresponded to the scorch mark, “I am guessing they wanted to make sure that was the first area destroyed.”
“So what was around there,” Barry asked.
“Good work,” Chris said, “Jill got the Polaroids?”
*
Surprisingly, it wasn’t a mansion, hospital, a corporate office or anything like an info structure site.
“Somehow this only makes it more creepy Barry,” Jill said.
“You got that right,” Barry noted.
“USMC Camp Burton,” Chris read the sign, “Condemned: asbestos hazards. Please stay out.”
“Alright people, you heard the man, mask up and gloves on. Be extra careful, you don’t know what kind of bullshit we are going to find in there!”
“And don’t let anything touch or scratch you!” Jill snapped.
“And sure as shit, don’t let anything bite!” Chris added.
The squad all acknowledged and they started their approach to the first set of buildings with their AKs up and scanning for threats.
*
“I know that they said to keep an eye on me so I didn’t get attacked in the bathroom, but don’t you think this is a bit over the top?” Professor Oak asked.
One officer stood facing the door with his pistol drawn, another facing the frosted glass windows to the outside, the third officer was told to cover the drain cover in the floor, two of the BAPS troops were kneeling in front of the doctor with their AK trained on the bathroom stalls and the third was aiming for the vent in the ceiling and cornered in by all of these armed men, was the professor sitting on a five gallon bucket with a spare toilet seat over it trying to empty his bowels.
“Trust me Professor, this is bare minimum security for a latrine,” one of the BAPS men said, “Doesn’t mater how secure you think you are, B.O.W.s have a way of turning latrines into bloodbaths.”
“Remember Carol?” Another asked.
“Please don’t, I just ate,” the third said as if he was about to vomit.
“How do you guys go to the bathroom at home?” one of the police officers asked.
“Adult diapers,” the third BAPS trooper responded.
*
The first three buildings were cleared quickly and without problems. It seemed that they were the public relations office, Battalion Staff offices, and a garage for duty sedans. From the assignment boards that were left in the Battalion offices, this was for a re-enforced company of Marine Military Police that had been sent here to occupy the islands after World War 2 and had been abandoned in the late 1960’s with the Special Economic Region’s own police taking over all such duties years before the shutdown.
At the rear of the buildings. The teams looked around and Jill signaled for them to advance. Ahead of them were the Officer Barracks to the left, and two enlisted barracks to the center and right. Beyond that should have been the armory, the motor pool and the drill yard. Chris say it first, and shouted as he shot.
“Contact, Officers Quarter! Top Floor!” Chris screamed.
“Contact center Barracks!” Barry shouted as he fired into a window in front of them.
Jill saw the figure fly back as the rounds from the AK went throw the man. More shots came from inside the buildings this time, and one of the guys on the team to the right went down. Jill cursed under her breath until he partly got back up and ran on his hands and feet fast enough to do the two mile is a minute and half. Jill slammed her shoulder into the wall of the building to the right of the door, Chris to the left, next to her a trooper put two bullets into the window above her head and a third tossed something into the window as they got to the wall. Jill went to her hands and knees to avoid shrapnel, but only felt a hollow shockwave and loud boom when it went off… Flashbang. The Trooper behind her yanked her up and she caught Chris’ eyes. He nodded. Once on her feet, she nodded back and reached back to hit the man behind her, and waited the fractions of a second for him to hit her back and she nodded again to Chris. Chris raised his submachine gun and put a burst into the door handle not far from Jill’s face before spinning and kicking the door open. Jill rushed in and spun around quickly, like the diagram in the company office, there was a small day room in front with a door to the main hall in back and there would be a bathroom in the far end of the building. There were two on the floor one writhing, the other still. Behind and beside her the second man came in and went to the left, covering the figures on the floor and the door in back while looking for anyone hiding. The third came in and then Chris. Barry and the fourth man in the team came in last and went right to the windows facing the Officers quarters and started to spray the other building’s windows with covering fire. Jill grabbed the man on the right with her and pushed him to the window facing the other building before rushing forward to the door to the main hall and nodding again. Jill was ready to shoot anyone that opened that door. Chris tackled the man writhing on the ground and quickly had him hogtied. The other PABS trooper secured the dead man, just in case, and kicked his weapon clear.
“No wonder they missed,” Chris came up and held the weapon the figure had been holding, “The mount for the holographic sight is wobbly and in the path of the brass.”
Jill took a second to look at the modified Mini 14 carbine and noted the large electronic holographic sight that hung over the ejection port of the miniaturized Garand knock off. It shook even more than the slight adrenalin shake in Chris’ arm.
“Lets do this, get up here,” Jill called to one of the two remaining Troopers.
The one who had been securing the corpse sprinted and then did a flying kick into the door that pushed back the frame and part of the wall around it as well. Jill and Chris rushed in behind him and found the room devoid of people but with many cages of dead Pokemon.
“Jill, Chris, I am going to help in the Officer’s Barracks!” Barry shouted.
“Go!” Jill shouted, “Go take his place!”
“On it Agent!” the trooper scrambled back to his feet.
Jill stole a glance to her right and saw muzzle flashes from the main room of the other barracks building, then stole a glance to the left and saw a full-on fire fight in the hallway of the Officers building. In the 1940’s a up to a company could be housed in a hall like this with bunk beds going down each side wall with locker and chests for each soldier, or marine in this case, but Officers would at least get a room for two or a private room depending on rank. And each room was connected by a long hallway along the wall facing the building they were in.
“I know, lets clear the bathrooms and get them help!” Chris said clearly reading her mind.
In a crouching run, the pair made their way in back checking for any signs of life or traps until they made it to the rear wall of the hall and hooked around the door way and split up. Jill went found herself in an open shower room with rusty remains of benches before the tiled room. She swept it and found no place for anyone to hide so she turned around and went to cover Chris.
“I’m behind you,” she whispered.
“I heard a door close,” Chris whispered.
Jill took her hand off the forgrip of the submachine gun and put it on Chris’ shoulder and gave a slight squeeze. The pair moved quietly in a crotch into the men’s room scanning for signs of enemies, human or B.O.W. They got a good look around and were looking at the toilet stalls, they had American style doors, so they started about a foot up.. enough to see the bottom of the toilets and hypothetically any feet. Jill looked at the side particians and noticed the slight warping… She pointed at the same two as Chris was and about the same level above the bowls of the toilets. The pair thumbed the safeties off and each took a stall. As if sensing the attack, the pair in the stalls opened fire and shot high over the agents, but they shot back and with clanking thuds the pair both fell down to the floor. Chris and Jill both rushed in and grappled with one each. Jill had a goon in the same gear as the Umbrella special ops guys back in Racoon City, the ones that had been quietly picking off the UBCS team members as well as wrecking the town hall and other key points in the city, but this one had blond pig tails! Jill slammed the woman’s head into the toilet two or three times trying to get her to stop fighting but the woman tried to kick Jill off of her. Jill punched the woman in an armpit figuring that she had to have bullet proof plates in the armored vest. Jill struck the woman one more time in the side of the head and knocked her out. Quickly, Jill had her hands cuffed so she was hugging the base of the toilet and stripped her of her pistol, carbine and any knives.
“Look who I unmasked,” Chris said holding up the bloody Butch, “You want to unmask your creep?”
“I think I know who this is,” Jill said pulling the gasmask off of Cassidy, the Giovanni group security staff member.
“Look they even have little umbrellas behind their fancy R,” Chris pointed as the shoulder of the man in his grip.
“Great, hang him up and let’s finish getting the others,” Jill said.
Chris pulled out a second pair of handcuff and with Jill’s help cuffed the man so the two connecting chains were above and below the rail providing the overhead support for the dividers of stalls. Chris and Jill exited the building and spotted movement at the back of the Officer’s barracks. Chris and Jill sprinted over to intercept them and Chris tackled a blue haired man as he exited the building. Jill was there just as quickly but was **** to try and tackle another woman exiting the building. This one wasn’t caught unaware and used her extra height and mass to punched and kicked Jill off of her.
“Another time Valetine!” another woman said with a heavy German accent as she sucker punched Jill.
Jill looked and recognized the pair, it was the blonde and the brunet women from the Umbrella Spec Ops team in Racoon City. Two more women came out, and knocked Chris off of the blue haired man and dragged him off. Jill recognized the Asian woman as another Racoon City veteran but didn’t recognize the woman with purple hair… Wait, blue and purple hair… that was the pair that attacked the kid! As if to confirm it, a tan cat ran out and jumped up and hung to the back of the purple haired woman’s armored vest.
“Congrats on almost catching the best of Team Rocket!” the man shouted before being punched by the tall blonde woman.
“Don’t drop him, lets go!” the brown-haired woman said with that familiar French accent.
The crew fled to the garage.
“Get back here you… Fuck. You two ok?” Barry said coming out of the rear of the Officer’s Barracks.
“I should have just shot them,” Chris said wiping blood from his lips.
“That’s harsh,” Jill said.
“But they were all wearing hard plates, so a Forty would have just knocked them out,” Chris said.
“Still harsh, come on, up with you,” Barry said before helping Chris up and then turning to help Jill.
“Did you manage to take any alive?” Jill asked.
“Yeah we grabbed four in this building,” one of the troopers said as she came out, “Did you get any?”
“We got three in the middle barracks,” Chris said.
“Let get the rest of the buildings cleared and then we can chat,” Barry said.
The sound of a car driving off got their attention.
“Well fuck,” Barry said.
*
The man in front of them was a colonel, and fairly grouchy one at the moment. Next to him were members of the police with MP-5 Submachine guns.
“These guys claim you are pychos,” the colonel said, “They came out here to play those survival games with bb guns, and you folks started to shoot them up with live ammo.”
“Which is bullshit,” Chris rebutted.
“They fired first, didn’t even give us a chance to identify ourselves and with live ammo,” Barry said, “On top of that, what did they say about the building filled with dead critters?”
“They found them like that,” the Colonel shrugged.
“Where are the bb guns?” Jill asked, “If they were playing with BB guns, were are they? I found a lot of live Mini 14 rifles and Glock pistols, but no BB guns. And I think your forensics crews will be able to tell the difference between the five-point-four-five and forty cal rounds we used and their two-two-three and nine millimeter rounds.”
“Lets say that I hypothetically believe you,” the Colonel said, “What have you got?”
“We interviewed the professor yesterday,” Chris said, “This morning, he called saying he was attacked by goons. We managed to rescue him and take him to the Viridian City police station and called for backup. Special Agent Burton and Andrews came with the back up squads and we secured the Professor, the vet clinic and got police to protect the Ketchum kid. We went back to the professor’s place and one of our guys noticed that a map was specifically burned to eliminate this area of it first, so we compared with a picture we took yesterday while visiting the professor and came to check it out. The first three buildings were empty so we moved on to these three, as we came up, they, the goons with the Umbrella logo and R on their gear started to shoot at us, we returned fire, tried to take people alive when we could…”
“We had to get handsy with some of them,” Barry interjected.
“Yeah, I saw what you did to that blonde girl,” The colonel snapped, “How can you live with yourself?”
“Blonde Girl?” Barry asked.
Chris snorted and tried to keep from laughing.
“What?” The colonel demanded.
Chris pointed at Jill.
“You took down the blonde girl?” the colonel addressed Jill.
“Well, she did shoot first,” Jill said, “And the continued to resist even after getting shot.”
“OK, so what you think they are Umbrella besides patches?” The colonel said.
“Three of the women,” Jill said, “Lupo, Bertha, and Foureyes, from the luggage tags, were Umbrella Special mercs sent in to destroy evidence during the Racoon City outbreak.”
“I thought the state Governor thanked Umbrella for the mercenaries,” the Colonel said, “Didn’t your group recruit some of them?”
“Officially, Umbrella sent their Biohazard Containment Service to rescue civilians,” Jill said, “And many of the UBCS team members did try to rescue civilians only to be killed in turn… But Umbrella also sent Special Mission teams to destroy evidence, kill witnesses, and cover up the incident as it happened. Those three women were among a team that tried to kill me along with some other large nasty things.”
“And the Rs?” the Colonel asked.
“One of them said something about Team Rocket,” Chris added, “I also have a feeling that a lot of them are going to be tied to the Giovanni group.”
Just then a burst of noise came from the head set about Barry’s neck. He grabbed it and put it back over the one ear and listened.
“Trouble at the vet clinic, seems our escaped friends are trying to destroy more evidence before they leave,” Barry said.
Jill, Chris and Barry all got up and reached for their weapons on the table. The two men with the MP-5s pointed them at the three.
“Haven’t you folks caused enough mayhem?” the Colonel snapped.
“That’s the thing,” Jill shot back, “We didn’t cause it, we came to clean up what has been festering under your watch!”
“And now the question is are you hear to help us, or this Team Rocket?” Chris added.
The colonel waved his hands at his escorts and they lowered their weapons.
What is going on at the vet Clinic?
