Chapter 44 by Artican Artican

What does Samantha do?

Sam tries to make a match with the lifeguard

Samantha’s heart skipped a beat. She still wasn’t sure if this lifeguard actually knew about submission wrestling but it was a positive sign that she brought it up. Sam turned around and looked the other woman in the eyes, noting how one was green and the other was brown. “You know WSW?” she asked, cautiously.

The blonde casually glanced around at the near empty pool area, then gave a knowing look to Sam and smiled, telling Sam that she was indeed familiar.

“I’ve watched some vids…” she admitted. “I take it you’re a fan es well?”

It was Sam’s turn to check if anyone was looking before she revealed in a conspiratorial tone, “Actually, I do a little of it myself…”

This raised an eyebrow from the lifeguard. “Oh really? You mean you actually wrestle?” Intrigued, she gave Sam a once over with her eyes, as if trying to see what was underneath.

Sam checked out the lifeguard’s body with similar intentions, only this was much easier for her with the former in form fitting red spandex. The blonde had a slim, athletic physique. She was small, maybe a half inch shorter than Sam, but that didn’t diminish from her authoritative presence. Wearing the lifeguard outfit and whistle around her neck, she looked like she could take charge in a moment’s notice, if an emergency came up.

“I don’t recall evah seeing you in a match…” the lifeguard noted after her cursory inspection.

“Well, I’m no pro,” Sam had to admit. She suddenly felt a shudder, as if she was just caught lying, even though she didn’t mean to imply that she was on WSW shows. She tried to clarify, “I’m still a rookie, but I have had matches…”

“Trying to impress me, are you?” the lifeguard suggested, bemused.

“Ah… no, I was just…” Sam blushed. She never intended this to be a pick up line. She had to pause and think. “I was just wondering if you would be interested in having a match… with me… I mean, not right now, you’re working, obviously… hah… but sometime later?”

There was an awkward silence between the two as Sam contemplated turning tail and running.

Meeting new people to wrestle was a lot harder than she had anticipated. She assumed someone would recognize the pin and they’d automatically strike up a conversation which would lead to them setting up a match. This girl seemed under the impression that Sam was trying to pick her up. Not that it was far from the truth, but she wanted to have a wrestle before things got more intimate. She started thinking about the optics of the whole situation and wanted to curl up into a little ball for being so cocky. The silence was killing her inside. She needed to say something.

“So…” she mused tenuously, “You ever… thought of trying it out? Wrestling?” Desperation wrinkled her forehead. She was feeling completely embarrassed but had nothing left to lose by just asking.

The lifeguard smiled softly as she stared at Sam. “I kent say det it hasn’t crossed my mind…”

“Well, I’m available to wrestle you… if you want… I know others too… if you’re not interested in me…” Sam added. She reasoned that if she ended up alienating herself, at least she could hook someone else up with this new girl. Having more wrestlers in the pool would only benefit the scene. “I’m Sam by the way…”

“Elsa,” the lifeguard introduced herself.

“Nice to meet you, Elsa… is that a British accent you have there?”

“Australian,” Elsa smiled.

Samantha eased up a little as the conversation was starting to go a little smoother now. “Australia, huh? I would love to visit there. The beaches there must be amazing!”

“Yeah! The surfing can be bitchin’ when you find the waves cranking! I used to head out every chance I got back when I was home! I mean, I could rip!”

Elsa seemed to be really into what she was talking about, but Sam was having trouble following along. She smiled and nodded. “So you were pretty good at surfing?”

“I’ve taken a few tournaments in my day,” Elsa boasted proudly. “Not something they expected out of a gidget like me!”

“Gidget?”

“Girl midget… det’s what they’d call me when I first started. But I showed them!”

“Ah… I know what that feels like,” Sam told her. “I’m usually the smaller girl in matches and that means the others don’t expect much of me, but in my last match I proved my friend wrong!”

“You won?” Elsa asked, showing some interest in the results.

“I did! Now she won’t take me so lightly ever again!”

Elsa looked at Sam in a new light now. She gave the petite brunette another once over. “Are you doing anything tonight?” she asked.

Samantha blinked, taken aback by the forward question. “I uh… I don’t have any plans, no…”

“If you don’t mind waiting around a bit while I close up, maybe we can have det match you were so stoked about…” the blonde said trepidatiously. She glanced over at Sam with a demure grin.

Sam felt her heart race. She was having a hard time believing she had actually succeeded in setting up a match! She gave Elsa another look to make sure she was serious. Elsa continued to grin cutely at the girl.

“So… should I just… wait here?” Sam wondered out loud.

Elsa looked around. The pool was now empty with the last of the clientele coming out of the change rooms and leaving the building. Elsa gave Sam a sidelong glance and suggested, “Why don’t you have a swim while I set something up?”

Sam grinned from ear to ear. Not only would she be getting a match tonight, she’d also get to swim after all!

“Sure!” she readily agreed.

Samantha went into the ladies locker room and changed into her swimsuit. It was a once piece outfit that swimmers wear to do laps in the pool. When she came out, Elsa gave her an eyeful, appreciating what she was seeing.

“Now I’m looking extra forward to a match tonight!” she teased before heading into the change room carrying foam liner pads used as non slip mats on the floor.

“What’s that for?” Sam asked.

“Set up!” Elsa said without looking back.

Sam stared at the door for a minute. Elsa setting up for the match made her wonder if she should be spending all her energy swimming leading up to it. She wanted to get some swim time in, but didn’t want to be worn out by the time she had to fight.

Should Sam conserve her energy or enjoy a swim?
