Part 2: Makoto's First Day

Thankfully for Makoto, he'd always been a morning person. I say thankfully, because despite her nicer personality, I doubt anyone with the last name Togami is used to being told their plans aren't ready. By the time Makoto had dressed (not in his hoodie, thank God.) Togami's presence had somehow made a doorbell sound forceful. "Ah, you're ready. Good." He's escorted to a limo, which drives within a minute of him getting in. Byakuko is reading what must be important files, so he stays silent until their destination. "This facility is relatively low-risk, the perfect testing ground for your seemingly erratic luck. If it proves more stable, we can spread you around to the more 'front-line' sort of places, cutting edge ****, crop strands, you understand." As they walk into the door, a young woman greets the CEO.

"Ma'am, I--" While walking, she trips on an unmarked wet floor, leading her to send the large, thin binder she's holding into the air. Without thinking, Makoto tries to catch the binder, making contact a number of times, but not catching it in a sequence that wouldn't look out of place in a cartoon. He finally does get a solid grip on it with the binder facing down toward another unmarked wet floor, saving the paper inside. As the woman steadies herself, looking at the lucky boy, she speaks. "You!" Makoto is scared, for obvious reasons, until the woman picks him up in a hug "You just saved eight months worth of research!"

"Ah, Misaki, I see you've met my good luck charm. Makoto, this is Misaki, one of our best researchers, when her work actually gets where it needs to go. I'll take that." She takes the folder, walking toward her office. Makoto feels the need to follow her. "Yes, this is good, it would've been a shame to lose this..."

"I didn't really do anything..." The heiress puts down the folder, intent on ripping that statement apart.

"'Didn't do anything'? Do you have any idea what eight months of research is worth at this company?! Your first day here and you're already worth your salary. If something like that can be expected to happen every day...we may have to discuss a raise sooner than I anticipated..."

"A raise?! But my luck is weird, I'm probably what made her trip in the first place..."

"I doubt that. That was Misaki Haruno, a brilliant researcher, no matter what field I put her in, but with a clumsy streak that flares up at the worst possible times. She was originally in one of our medical facilities, but was bounced around after we discovered her drawback. Thankfully, nothing more than inconvenience happened, but we decided it was best to move her here rather than tempting fate again. Perhaps making you her shadow would override that...?
