Turn Back
“You know may be we should just turn back and see if we can’t make it to your
house,” she says hopefully.
“Sure thing, we’ll go back.” He nods.
Carefully you turn the car around. With the setting of the sun, the headlights are
his only source of light. The world falls from a haze to soup of shadow on shadow.
The full moon raises but this only serves to increase the contrast of shadow and
shade. Wolves howl, and phantoms dash in and out of the mist. The road was
barren nothing but the shadow of aching trees crossed it. Energy seem to fill the
air. The road slowly becomes increasingly winding.
“I’m so sorry. I’ve made things worse,” says Sarah.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to you.” The words surprised even John as they exited your mouth. “What’s that light up there?”
“I think it’s a house. Maybe we can get directions,” suggest Sarah. Almost begging.
