BR - Talk to Beth

It’s hard to bring up what happened with Beth. She wants to go to an art museum in the city, and you don’t want to ruin a date with talking about weird stuff.

It strikes you as unfair that it has to be like this. Beth dressed up a little for this date in a cute, short, summery dress and some very sexy heels. You also made an effort, but that’s not the point. It’s the blazing summer outside, you’re strolling through the cool, peaceful museum, holding hands with your perfect girlfriend. This is what you fantasized about as a lonely high school student.

Now you’re distracted by this BS that Eliza brought you. FUTA is great. What are these girls on about? Seriously. They’re paying you well, taking good care of you, and the show actually embodies a lot of good things. Yes, it’s a bit exploitative in the T&A department, but everyone knows it and is OK with it. In a lot of ways, it’s empowering.

You still don’t understand this stuff with the Raccoon City girls or how Eliza plays into it. You just know that they’re suspicious of Annette.

“I never paid so much attention to penises,” Beth murmurs to you as you look at great works of Renaissance art. “You’re bigger than all these burly men.”

You blush and look around, but nobody’s listening.

Later, you eat at the museum’s beautiful restaurant, outside. “I sent some stuff home. Some FUTA merch. I don’t see my mom wearing it, but you know, why not? I just don’t know what to send my sister,” you tell Beth, who listens intently.

“She doesn’t like T-shirts?”

“No, it’s like… I don’t want to be a jerk. There’s this whole new part of our relationship,” you say, gesturing in frustration. “Like… I make more money than she does. I’m kind of getting famous. I don’t want to act like I’m trying to make things a competition. You know? I want to be sensitive.”

Beth looks sympathetic. “I guess that’s awkward. Have you always been competitive with her?”

“Not at all,” you say with a laugh. “Or if we were, I’d be the lame one and she’d be the cool one.”

“Seriously? Weren’t you a star even before this?”

You snort. “Not really.”

“I saw a video of you long before I ever came here,” Beths says, tapping the table. “You were. It’s all right to be modest about it, but wasn’t this already happening?”

“I don’t know. I guess Kayla wouldn’t care about me being good at soccer or playing for the University of Florida. But she probably cares about me making bank and being on Hulu and stuff. I mean, I would if I was in her shoes. I’d be jealous. I don’t know how to… get around that.”

Beth sighs. “Neither do I. Luckily, I haven’t got that problem. My mum is quite posh,” she says.

“Oh,” you reply, giving her a look. “I bet she is.”

Beth peers at you worriedly. “You don’t know what that word means, do you?”

Oh. She busted you.
