Chapter 4 by Krimson Krimson

In the Golden Desert

A hot, dusty wind blew over Mileena's skin as she found herself standing atop a sandy dune. She scanned the horizon for any signs of Jade, but all she saw was what seemed to be an endless sea of golden sand. "Wonderful." She muttered with venomous snark as she began trudging through the sand in a random direction. Her skin glistened with sweat in the desert heat and eventually, as the sun began to touch down on the horizon, Mileena came upon a large collapsed statue of her adoptive mother, Queen Sindel. She glared at the ruined statue, "You too shall be mine, mother."

In the shade of the collapsed statue, Mileena saw remnants of a recent campsite. She looked over the remnants and found a page that had been burned to nothing more than a small scrap. Only one word remained legible on the scrap, "Heel." Mileena read out loud. She looked over the ruins and found that the only part still standing upright was that of Sindel's left foot. She wondered if it could really be as simple as that.

Mileena walked over to the large stone foot and inspected it, finding a small sigil near the heel. As Mileena touched the sigil, it glowed with gold light and a secret doorway opened in the stone heel. "Is this where you've gone, Jade? Is this where I'll break you and make you mine?" Her Tarkatan eyes filled with an evil glee as she walked into the stone entrance.

The door closed behind her as she moved down the stone steps, descending into darkness until she reached the flat surface of a lightless room. Mileena pulled out her sais and rubbed them together, creating sparks that gave brief visibility. It was enough to allow her to find an unlit torch ensconced on the wall. She flicked her sais once again, this time causing the sparks to ignite the torch. Mileena then grabbed the torch and made her way deeper into the strange ruins.

As she walked down the abandoned halls, Mileena noticed murals on the walls. The murals depicted the beautiful lakes and lush, green mountains of Edenia, the realm which Jade as well as Queen Sindel, and her daughter, Princess Kitana originally called home. That was before Shao Khan's forces invaded and merged the realm with Outworld. "Hmm, what could you possibly be looking for in the ruins of a dead world, my dear Jade?" Mileena pondered to herself.

Mileena continued on and eventually reached a set closed metal doors with Edenian words engraved above it. "Only those of native blood shall enter the Chamber of All-Seeing." Mileena laughed, "Well, I guess it's a good thing I share the blood of an Edenian princess then." She pushed the metal doors and when her hands touched them, the doors shimmered with a golden light before opening. Through the now open doorway, Mileena saw Jade in the distance. The black-skinned woman was at the center of a chamber, turning a wooden wheel as the ceiling above her shifted through different visions of various events of past, present, and future.

Jade seemed unaware of Mileena's presence as she made her way closer.
