Upstairs.

Dago wandered upstairs, which he normally didn’t do. He stayed in Marian’s room, usually. He wondered offhand if that would change. He hoped it didn’t, as he’d gotten used to it and guessed he’d miss it. He didn’t expect Marian to be there all the time, just as Marian didn’t expect him there all the time, but the familiarity and the closeness to the normally pretty distant man was something Dago wanted to keep.

He reached the top of the stairs and looked around. He didn’t see anyone, but there were more stairs and several doors on this floor. The stairs would lead up to the girl’s dorms; this floor was the boy’s dorms.

Dago turned to go up the stairs when he heard something from the nearest door. He got closer and thought he could hear someone either moaning in pleasure or in serious pain.
