Chapter 4 by thecoolnametom thecoolnametom

What's next?

Head to the closest presentation

You look at the map and schedule and see that there's a small presentation starting in a nearby room. It's entitled, "Easygoing Sewing: Getting Started with Cosplay," and is apparently about getting started with cosplay for beginners.

You smile and walk in. The room is small, with a handful of chairs in front of a table where the presenters will be sitting. The room is mostly empty, with a few people in the chairs.

At the front of the room there's three people sitting in chairs behind a table in various forms of cosplay with name tags in front of them and one girl standing to the side. She's standing because she has an elaborate contraption connected around her waist to give her the impression of being a centaur. She's wearing a school-girl uniform with the skirt extra long to cover the rest of her costume, presumably to make it easier to construct. The back legs look almost human, with socks and shoes to match her real ones. It's very impressive. Her brown hair is plaited in a tight braid that runs over her shoulder and down the front of her simple buttoned blouse. There's a folded paper announcing her first name as Olivia.

The other panelists are a man (Brad) in an Aquaman outfit that isn't really very good (basically orange and green pajamas that don't help hide his belly), a very skinny girl (Samantha) dressed in the costume of a famous stretchy super-heroine from a recent movie, and the final one (Jenny) is dressed in a maid outfit and is sporting a large, plushy dragon tail that arises from under the back of her skirt. You recognize the character from a recent anime, though the character seemed a bit more busty than this girl, but it's obvious she's put some real hard work into her outfit.

You sit down, and soon a pretty girl in glasses asks if she can sit down next to you. You smile and she sits down to introduce herself as Becky. She tells you that she's been cosplaying for years and loves it. She's excited to see what tips the panelists have to offer.

The panelists start by talking about how important it is to choose a character that you identify with. They stress the importance of comfort level too - if you're not comfortable in your costume, it'll show in your photos or performance.

They also talk about wig care, makeup tips, prop construction, and where to find affordable supplies. By the end of the panel, you feel like Becky - armed with all sorts of new knowledge and ready to tackle cosplay.

But, of course, that's not entirely why you can to their presentation, is it?

It's time for the questions and answers, and your hand is in the air immediately. Brad points at you and you stand up.

"I'm very impressed with your presentation," you say, and they all smile, "almost as impressed as your costume work. I was wondering if it would be all right if I took a picture of any of you as you continue to answer questions?"

Brad looks at the other three girls, who all nod, then he shrugs at you. "Sure, knock yourself out. Who else has a question?"

He picks another audience member, who begins to ask about some point already covered, as you get up and politely approach the front of the room, pulling out your phone and opening the app.

So, how is this going to go? You wonder what would happen if you took the picture of multiple people at the same time. You also wonder what would happen to the two girls wearing the elaborate, but definitely non-human, cosplay? Velma's actual bust increased in size when you took her picture, but who's to say what the limits are when it comes to what changes the camera could produce?

Who do you take a picture of?
