Chapter 16 by bsnick
Does Bria have any problem with the bus?
Of course. She's forgotten her purse and they toss her off
It was only as Bria was being pressured up the stairs that she realized her purse was missing. It was useless trying to push her way back off,the crowd was like an immovable object, pushing forward with a **** that none could resist.
The only option she saw was to put her phone to her ear like she was talking and try to breeze by.
"Ticket!" a voice demanded, and she acted like it wasn't directed at her. Until, that is, a hand grabbed her dress near the hem, pulling her back by the stretchy fabric, but not before giving a cheeky view to the front-row people in the bus.
"Oh, um, sorry, I've got a pass, I just forgot where I put it," she lied.
The bus driver, a grumpy looking man who was probably approaching retirement looking at her clothes dubiously, and she realized what a ridiculous story it was.
"I, uh, left it at home," she amended. "Could you please let me on? Just this once? I promise I'll remember it the next time."
"No fare no ride," he said, pulling her inexorably backwards toward the impatient people trying to get on.
"No really, I will!" she insisted, but his expression was now both grumpy and impatient. "Look, the truth is that I left it across the street. I was sitting at the curb and must have forgotten it. It's got to be over there," she said, and with a hand on a pole and the other on the cashbox she leaned forward, twisting around to see where she'd been sitting.
Her position and movements were giving the bus driver a terrific view of her cleavage, but no matter how much she looked she couldn't seem to see her purse. She did see a brief fluttering of blue that might have been her panties, which she only now realized she wasn't wearing, but that seemed to dive down a sewer grate.
"Oh my god, someone stole my purse! You've got to call the cops, I think I know who did it!"
The driver, though, was having none of it. "Get off the bus."
"Wait! You've got to believe me!" she insisted, but people were pushing past her, nudging her back with sharp elbows in retaliation for her blocking them. Bria endured a few bruising blows to her chest before retreating, glaring up at the driver.
"I'm going to report you for this!" she cried out, but he just rolled his eyes, closing the door as one more man sprinted to the side.
"Open the door! Dammit, this is important, open the god-damned door!" the man insisted, pounding on the glass as the bus peeled away from the curb, leaving the irate man and the stranded beauty queen alone at the stop.
Does misery love company, or is the company misery?
