You have to keep going

You look down at your feet for a moment, pondering the situation you've found yourself in. You are deep into a dungeon with unknown dangers ahead and you just abandoned your last scrap of protection. You have never been in a situation this dangerous before, and you'll have to be incredibly careful if you want to get out of this.

A quick peek behind you reminds you that your only real way out of this situation is to forge ahead. Directly behind you is that strange creature you just encountered, and even if you got past that there's no guarantee you could find your way out the same way you came in. You'll have to make your way through.

With a newfound resolve, you begin walking down the empty hall again. The stone floor is cold against your bare feet but you slowly make your way past many twists and turns, with each step getting closer to whatever awaits you on the other end.

For longer than you'd like, all you can hear is the soft patter of each of your steps deeper into the dungeon. At some point, however, you turn a corner and can barely make out in the distance something across the breadth of the passageway. As you get closer, you can make out in the dim light that there is a gate spanning the width of the hallway. You begin to get apprehensive as you approach, wondering if this is going to turn into a dead end. When you arrive at the spot that is barred off, however, it is immediately obvious that there is nothing holding this gate closed. Whatever lock or latch that was holding it in place must have rusted away long ago.

The barrier swings wide open with the lightest push. The volume with which the hinges protest when turned makes it feel like even this light pressure will cause them to rust away, too. With this challenge out of the way, you step forward into a thankfully much less claustrophobic passage than the ones you've been sneaking through up to this point. You only make it a few steps in, however, when a slightly muffled voice echoes down the hall to you.

"Well this is quite a pleasant surprise..." The voice comes from further down than you can see, but you freeze when you hear light footsteps from up ahead approaching you.
