Gossip and News

Sitting at her desk Jodie bounced her glossy red six inch heel on her toes absentmindedly as she turned the page of the magazine she had picked up from the coffee shop checkout line. She had never been one for gossip, but it was a frequent topic among the office staff and the small chit chat in the break room or while she was making Adam his coffee was a nice piece of the day. Once upon a time she sat in whatever the IT department considered a work area keeping to herself and stressing about timelines of projects. Now she had the time to sip her coffee and hear about what was going on in the office, she never did seem to find out something before Tiffany and wondered how her friend was so in the know. A light buzzing sound caused Jodie to jump before she realized it was her phone. The sound reminded her of the little toy she was wearing last night in the bathroom. She bit her lip and looked back at Adam’s door, considering sliding in while he was on his call and unzipping his pants. She had already swallowed his load earlier, but when he held her from behind she could feel he could go another round, but he had work to do. Eric didn’t seem to mind being woken up in the middle of the night with a hand job, Adam wouldn’t mind something similar. Oh my god, I have like totally turned myself on thinking about him. Gah!! Her mind railed against the thoughts. She was going to be leaving him soon and needed to focus more on her other boyfriend. Her fingers reached up and touched the little metal heart shaped lock on the choker she wore and let out a little sigh.

Things were easier when she hated him, she still didn’t love him, but… Jodie moved her tongue around in her mouth still tasting the lingering flavor. “Okay girl, you need to like sit down and think of a way for the breakup to go easy. She would still rather he broke up with her and thought of a great way to try and push him more like she had been since the last trip. She had run fleeing at the mention of marrying Eric the previous night, it was for a different reason, but still. Jodie smiled to herself as she started to look up photos of wedding venues, she was going to be a good secretary and put all the venue photos she liked in a binder for her boss to review, with a single note saying “What do you think?” Adam had told her talking about this was too fast, and if he was uncomfortable before, then she wondered what he would do when she turned it up. Maybe if she handed him a glass of his whiskey after she had her lunch tomorrow, she could sit on his lap and just come out and ask when they are going to get married and have babies. She could just imagine him spitting out the drink at the totally sudden question. She had just hit print on a venue out in New Jersey, a place called Legacy Castle. It looked amazing and they could have it for a low price of three hundred dollars per person. Her phone started to vibrate again, this time a call coming in as she looked through the large gallery of images. “That place is like a dream.” She said before looking over to her prink phone.

“Hello this is Jodie!” She said in her more bubbly phone voice that Tiffany had trained her to use back when she started this job. “Jodie this is Max, Max from Howl. How are you doing today?” Jodie slid her cross leg to the floor and sat up straight on the edge of her chair, hearing the voice of the entertainment manager from Howl at the Moon. “Today is just a totally amazing day Max, and hearing from you is like making it sooo much better.” She giggled, getting a little giddy in anticipation of the news he held. “Jodie I love your attitude and frankly your talent and beauty. At the second I’m not sure in what order, but if you were to spend a few nights here a week, I’m sure I could come to a decision.” Jumping up from her chair did a little dance, tapping her feet and wiggled her hips so excited she had got the role. “Jodie, I’m telling you that you got the job.” She could hear his voice had dropped the playfulness when she hadn’t answered. “Oh my god Max I am so excited!” Jodie sat back down in her seat trying to keep herself still. “I’m glad to hear it and I wanted to tell you more about your new position. We are closed on Mondays, you will work seven to midnight on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at first. Giving you one of the slowest nights of the week and the busiest, while someone else that auditioned will get the other three nights and you can pick up some more shifts if anyone calls out. You get the flat rate we discussed each shift, plus tips and two drink vouchers good for that night. You can use them yourself or give them to a friend, but please try to remember your position opened up because one of our full-time entertainers embedded too much. Sorry, drank too much. So I only have two questions, do you accept the offer and could you come in before seven today to sign the paperwork?” Jodie was beside herself with glee, working at Howl at the Moon as one of the piano players was going to be much different than being on stage like when she was part of a band. “Yes, Max a thousand times yes!” Hanging up the phone Jodie moved her way over to the printer, partially dancing to collect her print jobs.

Back at her desk she opened up her camera and checked her makeup, before clicking over to the text message she had neglected that came in. Her heart feeling a little more full seeing Erics name in bold.

Eric: Janet came out and bought a few of us some subs, I am really liking her better now as your friend than when you two were dating.

Jodie: FUZZY BEAR! Enjoy your lunch, wish that could be me visiting :(

Eric: I would love that too, Janet is really dressing up to impress her man. If both of you showed up I don’t think anywork would get done on site.

Eric: She is going to stay out here for dinner and the three of us, think you could drive out here after work and join us?

Frowning at her phone Jodie wished she could go, but had plans with Max now. She tried to think if she could make it to both, but didn’t think traffic would allow it.

Jodie: Awww no I can’t! :(

Jodie: But like I have the BEST NEWS! I got the job at Howl at the Moon!!!!

Eric: That is amazing, I told you that you had it in the bag. I never doubted you would impress them like you constantly do to me. You are amazing Jodie, and know even though work has me not home a lot right now that I cherish the time I do get with you. I love you Jordan Applgegate.

Eric: Janet also brought up that Halloween party costume party at your work, I’m sorry again I can’t make it.

Jodie: U R TOTALLY THE BEST like besides you don’t care about Halloween.

Eric: That isn’t it, I just think its for kids, but it is an important holiday for the woman I love. So it is important to me.

With that less message Jodie pressed the phone to her chest, blushing a little at his words. They were just a text message, that you couldn’t feel emotion from or hear it in a voice, but it was there, she could feel. With one hand on the phone, her other reached up and lightly touched her choker. Life was weird and scary, but right now she felt so happy with it. She was about to start working a musician and actually be making money for the first time and at the same moment in her life she had a job that paid more than she ever made fixing computer and was about to get a promotion. She had close friends like Tiffany, Lauren, Janet and have the love of two men. Some of that was about to change, it had to change, but lately changes have been good. Even if she couldn’t see it at the time or hated it before learning to love it like how she hated dressing the way she did, but all the attention was thrilling. She couldn’t contain her smile before sending out a text to her girlfriends.

Jodie: I got a little news

Tiff: Is it about Amelia?

Jodie: Wait, what about Amelia?

Lauren: Who is Amelia?

Tiff: She works on the social media team for public relations or like she did!

Lauren: She got fired? Aww thats horrible

Tiff: No! She was stealing from the petty cash and got caught!

Tiff: Security just went up to escort her out

Janet: Mega Corp will let a lot slide, but never stealing from them.

Jodie: How did you like find out if she hasnt even been fired yet?

Tiff: I have spys everywhere!

Janet: She spends her time gossiping and bribing everyone with chocolate

Lauren: I want to be bribed with chocolate…

Janet: So how would have Jodie known about Amelia, if this is still going down?

Jodie: What?

Janet: She asked if your news was about Amelia.

Jodie: Oh

Tiff: Well now she knows

Tiff: So spill girl, what news do you have?

Jodie: You are totally looking at the new piano player for Howl at the moon!

Lauren: No one is looking at you sweetie, no one can see you. But I am super happy for you.

Janet: We can’t see her, but I’m sure plenty of people are looking at her.

Tiff: OMG!!! That is great news!

Tiff: From what I hear plenty of people are noticing you too Janet ;-)

Lauren: I could go for a few less people looking

Tiff: Oh I had the best idea! Lets go shopping tonight, you need some clothes to look your best in!

Jodie: Yeah?

Tiff: Definitely, lets do it tonight, Ben wont mind holding our bags.

Lauren: Now that I have been paid I really should get work clothes of my own.

Janet: I’m out, already have plans

She thought about the outfit she wore to perform and wondered if she should keep dressing like that, if that was the case she would need some more coresets. She giggled at that thought, who would have ever thought she would want more of the restrictive garment. Maybe she should get some more fancy outfits like she saw in her magazine that celebrities wore to galas and red carpet events. She would have to ask Tiffany for her opinion on what to get and considering she was still getting on her feet financially she really needed to sit down with Janet sometime so she didn’t over draw her account. The pumps she had bought last week looked incredible, but she hadn’t looked at her bank account before hitting purchase and had to go back and cancel the order. Jodie looked back at her bosses door and wondered if he would buy them for her.
