You watch the guards as they close in

You have a few more people to dodge around, but your path soon opens up to a straight shot for the gate. You pick up speed and start running as fast as your bare feet can take you, watching to your right as several guards also break free from the crowds to catch you.

You continue sprinting as fast as your bare feet can carry you as you watch the guards close in. They are making their way straight towards the exit just like you are, but watching their pace you estimate they are several steps behind your pace. Your frantic sprint means you misstep several times but still catch yourself before taking a full tumble. Every time this happens you look down to the ground in front of you for just long enough to get back into full stride before turning back to the guards. Despite these stumbles, you think you can still outpace them even though the gap has narrowed. The tension spikes as you both get closer and closer to the exit. You stare directly at the lead guard, almost daring him with your glare to run fast enough to catch you. Your mind is already racing with the options you will have when you rush past them, thinking through where exactly you should go to make sure you never end up in this horrid **** market ever again.

Only a few steps away from freedom, however, your escape comes to a sudden and complete halt. Your gaze was so focused on the guards trying to catch you that you did not notice the towering, blue-skinned goliath making his way into the square until you had already crashed into him at full speed and tumbled backward, landing flat on your ass and ending up sprawled out on your back, looking up at him.

With a heavy exhalation through his nose, he looks down on you. His piercing, red eyes seem more annoyed than angry. "Watch your step, tramp," are his only words to you before continuing past you without looking back.

You lay there in a daze for a moment, still recovering from the sudden tumble. As you are coming back to your senses you hear the distinct sound of boots on stone in all directions. You look all around you and realize the guards have you surrounded. For a few seconds you try to look for any way you could sneak out of this situation, but it soon becomes obvious that there's no way you could get back up on your feet and escape now.

The guards don't even say anything to you. Their sinister stares tell you what you already know - your escape attempt failed, and they can now do whatever they want to you.
