Pregnant

“... pregnant!” The doctor says. “Congratulations!”

You look at him dumbfounded, “I didn’t want to be pregnant...”

“Oh I’m sorry...” the doctor says looking at your chart. “I’ll let you take sometime to process this.”

You sit in the exam room with your face in you hands holding back tears. The hormones are wrecking you. On one hand you never asked for this. On another this child will be the only thing you have left of your husband.

You still have the wedding band on your finger. It’s hard to cope with the idea that he never was real, but how could it not have been. You have a ring, you have the memories, and now you are with child.
