Poll Analysis

So, there were some obvious results of this first poll and some not so obvious results.

The first point of note is that the first three girls introduced (Miss Friedman, Jessica, and Miki) far outstripped the later girls in terms of results. I imagine part of this was just because all three of them got relatively large amounts of time and setup in the prologue. But, some girls like Leia got far more set up time then Miki, so that explanation alone doesn't quite solve it. That said, it was clearly a factor, especially when you compare the results of Leia, who had lots of time but was introduced late, to Gabriella and Polina, who had basically no time and were also set up late.

Part of it I imagine is just questions of novelty or the character writing. People on this site really like stories about Asian girls (as evidenced by the storyline I adopted awhile back "The Backpack") and teachers. They're very "Out of Central Casting" if you will. The fact that people rated Miki in particular so high I imagine was based on that. I imagine part of why Gabriella's lower result is just that I didn't write her first thread all that well.

You will also notice that in some cases it was just about who readers had more time to absorb. Jessica, Miki, Danny, and Miss Friedman were the first four characters I wrote into the story. So people had lots more time to latch on to them. But, I did also write Miriam and Aaliyah into the story before I went on my hiatus of a few months, so this explanation is only a contributing factor.

So what is the take away for me?

All of this basically tells me which storylines are already working as is, and which I need to kick into heavy gear. Jessica, Miki, and Miss Friedman are going full steam ahead. I'm not changing all that much for Aaliyah and Gabriella because they were only meant to really sell the appeal on day 2 anyway. But, some girls like Polina and Miriam in particular really need to have their story lines and characters kicked into higher gear.
