Playable Races

There are quite a few 'civilised' (or near-enough) species to be found in the various Player's Handbooks, and other sourcebooks, that differ in subtle or significant ways from their counterparts in other forms of fantasy - and plenty which are wholly unique to the game. What 'playable' race are you thinking of, exactly?
