Picking a New Adventure
“Here’s your coffee sir,” said a waiter as he deposited your coffee on a small table in front of you. Idly, you wonder if you should make this cafe a nude cafe as well but, considering your waiter is a boy, the effect might be lost. You turn and watch the waiter leave for a moment before shaking your head and chuckling. The boy might be cute but you can **** your powers later.
You take a sip of your coffee and stare out the window at the surprisingly distant view of the Earth. You are in a star port in high Earth orbit, which is surprisingly far though it makes sense, considering the Moon is also in Earth orbit.
A steady traffic of shuttles went to and from the various star ports that had been set up in Earth orbit to accommodate trade. It was curious though, while it would be contemptuously easy to provide access to the galactic markets via these star ports, Earth still mostly had to rely on building ground based space ports for commercial trade. The star ports in orbit were mostly only for passenger traffic or for the ships too big to land on Earth proper.
You sigh as you bring up pics of fossil fueled automobiles and coal fired generators barely able to keep the lights on much less power anything modern. The game wasn’t kidding when it said technology hadn’t advanced in some places since the 20th century.
You then pull up images of the gleaming metropolis that is Vancuver, the Alliance’s supposed capital city on earth. Great gleaming spires, arcologies, easy flowing traffic through well planned sky lanes. The city was a futuristic dream overflowing with opulence and abundance. You pull up one of the wealthier capital cities in Africa for comparison and scowl at the disparity. The city was nice looking for the late 2000s but for the 2160s it was down right primitive. It was almost like stumbling upon a dieselpunk society.
With a sigh you closed the browser down and opened up a feed of your own star system which was still in construction. In the three days it’s been since you started the process of building your own star system, the automated processes have amassed a rather nice amount of stellar bodies.
For a start, the outer system had a rather dense asteroid belt which was absolutely full of valuable things like ice, element zero, and assorted useful minerals. Seeing this, you are immediately reminded of some Halo lore videos you watched and an idea struck you. A smile spread across your face as you altered the automated process building your star system to include all of the fixing to produce UNSC armour including the fictional ‘titanium-50’.
Out of idle curiosity, you look up on the extranet to see what most people are using in this day and age for ship and infantry armour and almost chuckle as you realise they are all using some form of ceramic. Ideas started swirling in your head as you took another sip of your rapidly cooling coffee. Your eyes dwell upon the slot left in the star’s orbit for your habitable world as you contemplate how you want to construct it.
You sigh and shake your head, you had other things you wanted to do first. If it took God with a capital ‘G’ six days to build planet earth, all defects and plagues included, it was probably going to take a Bruce Almighty rip-off like you a lot longer.
With that in mind, you contemplate what to do. You could go visit Meagan again, she’d definitely be down for some more orbital sex. At that thought, you pull up a vid screen and have it show you the inside of the cafe Meagan worked at. Luckily it was open, though she didn’t appear to be there. Instead a dark skinned woman was delivering coffee to a man who grabbed her arse, surprising the woman.
“Hey!” The woman said with a laugh. “You’re gonna need to tip if you want some arse!” She told the man who gave her a chuckle and let her on her way. The woman, naturally, sashayed away to make sure her table got a good view of her posterior.
You are actually surprised at how friendly the cafe seemed, between the visitors who didn’t make any uncomfortable gestures or comments, to the girls who seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs. But then, you suspect the Karens would avoid the place like the plague and the workers were the kind of exhibitionists that would be happy to streak in public.
You close the vid screen down with a contemplative inhale before opening up a list of popular tourist spots on Earth. From where you are in orbit and from the fact that Earth had gone towards ‘borderless states’ sometime since taking to the stars, you could easily go anywhere on the planet you desired. Which was especially helpful to you since any passport you might have had is a century and a half out of date by now.
As you scroll through the list, Japan jumps out at you and you take the time to look over some of the famous Japanese cities. Immediately you begin noticing something odd about the large metropolises of Japan and you start looking up the country itself. Apparently, in response to a major population disaster, the country had shifted toward automation of just about everything essential for the country to function. This has left the Japanese to focus more heavily on culture and service which began a slide towards a modern form of traditionalism.
Even the country’s architecture, despite being ultra modern, was looking more like it did in the 30’s and 40’s. Tall skyscrapers had the look of pagoda towers or castle tenshu and only Tokyo really maintained the modern look and feel of Japan.
And so, you made your decision to go and explore how Japan had adapted to this modern era.
