Chapter 4 by Relator10 Relator10

Going to get some fresh air ?

Outside

While you stand on the front porch you breathe in the brisk morning air filled with the scent of the mountain forest which is definitely a change of pace because like most humans you grew up in the plains of Mythica not in a mega-city but still in the region of one. This brings back happy memories about your childhood but also sad ones because on those same plains your parents had a fatal accident with their car while underway to someone they knew from their line of work. Your family used to run a guesthouse. You saw them all pass by from the hulking ogre and orcs over the lithe elves to smaller ones like dwarves or halflings and even goblins and of course humans.

Seeing that you completed your studies your parents left you in charge while they went on their trip.
You still remember you took a short economic curriculum and the compulsory magick curriculum within the back of your head the idea to one day take over the guesthouse. There were few confirmed bookings during their away time so your parents thought this would be a nice trial run for you. They said they would be gone for a few days and tried to stay in contact. Outside the mega-cities the only way to keep in contact was the Grid (the world-spanning computer network), the Waking Grounds has autonomy on this subject.

But after a week you started to worry. It was then that some law official came to visit the guesthouse and after verifying who you were said that your parents had a car accident and didn’t make it. Seeing the apparently obvious questioning look on my face he just said “Let say it was not a pretty sight” which curbed any questions you were entertaining about your parents.
After that everything went pretty fast. The next day somebody from a lawyer firm introduced himself as the executor of my parent's will. He also carried a letter from my parents.

"Our dearest son,
If you read this it means that something unexpected has happened.
In this case, we don’t want you to hang on to the guesthouse,
but instead, we want you to see some of the world.
Just say YES to the people of Shure that will be carrying this letter.
They will then take care of everything.

Love,
Mom and Dad"

After you let the content of the letter sink in you let out a deep sigh and say “YES”.
The only response that came from your visitor was “I understand. Someone will come to help you move” and before you even had the chance to start voicing something he was gone.
If it weren’t for the letter in your hand one would think you had imagined it.
When you are alone again you ponder about how strange it is that nobody dropped in because otherwise (do I dare say normally) there’s always somebody who drops in for an overnight stay at the guesthouse.

The move
