Only a guard

You took a short cut through some camps, may of stepped on a ghoul or two, and found yourself next to a lava river. You cast your eye over the area to find some way across it, because you can see the castle right over it.

You found a old stone bridge just a few yards away so you started to walk over to it. As you got closer to could make out a massive shape. You got to talking range, you saw that it was a troll, maybe it just wants a toll. Then you heard it say " Back off big fella. Your kind is no welcome on bridge. Just run be for I use you to fix. I could use some stone." You took that as a challenge and you were already late to your master, so you were going to knock him down a peg and walk across the bridge with your captive in total. You grab the elf and tell her to stay or you she will die, be it seems she is asleep. Now that she is off your shoulder you continue to walk over to the troll and say " I will not kill you be it will hurt. Then I will slowly walk across your bridge. Now let's fight." It just snarled in response and reached behind its back and pull out a war hammer bigger then a pillar. This might be a problem, but you have not had a challenge at all today so why not. You start to circle each other waiting for the first move to come. Then the troll pounced, it slammed the hammer down and caused a minor shake that set you off balanced, that what he was looking for. He rammed his shoulder right in chest. That caused you to fall out the ground and he lifted his hammer above his head and aimed it right for your eye.

What will do to get out of this one. Kill him, kick him in the knee caps, roll to the side, and will I stop making lame jokes. Only you can prevent forest fires.
