Chapter 47 by carnivorous cow
The next morning...
Off to the market.
Druuna awoke the next morning, rested and ready to sell her bounty at the open air market. After dressing and buying a warm breakfast for 2 bottle caps, Druuna grabbed her pack and made her way to the Greenport market with spring in her step and a whistle on her luscious lips.
The market was just as it had been last time she had visited; towering multi-level buildings surrounded the bright stone courtyard, full of brightly colored stalls selling wares from all over the continent: meat from the un-mutated bovine herds in the cold North, fish from the East coast, guns and goods salvaged from the lost times, clothes and dyes and all sorts of things. Druuna wandered around, looking at goods and services offered by the various stalls until she found what she was looking for; a large electronics booth. The merchant; a sickly looking man in fine robes, grinned at Druuna as she approached and said “Sorry lady, but I’m working here. I can’t buy a prostitute right now.” Druuna ignored the mans comments and replied “That’s not what I’m here to sell you. I got a load of batteries that I’d like to exchange for caps.” The man stopped grinning and looked at Druuna carefully “…Alright. How good are they?” Druuna grabbed one of the still sealed packages from her pack and showed it to the merchant “Never been used, full charge. I got thirty-six twelve packs.” The merchant nodded and quickly grabbed a number of pre-measured pouches of caps that were marked “1k” and one that was marked “100” and some extra caps “I’ll give you five thousand, one hundred and eighty-four caps for the whole load, missy.” Druuna handed the merchant the batteries and put the caps in her pack. The merchant shook her hand before she left and told her he’d be happy to do business with her again anytime.
Druuna counted her fortune while munching on some rations in the market plaza. Five thousand three hundred and fifty-three caps total. Druuna put away her caps and left the market for the Finders Guildhall. When Druuna arrived, she found Ezra sitting at the counter, showing a young girl how a small device worked. Ezra looked up from his work as Druuna walked in and smiled at her “Well, as I live and breathe, you’re alive! I woulda thought you’d be mutant chow by now missy. So what’ve you been up to?” Druuna smirked and took a seat across from the old man “I went to the Oakwood Mall. Found a bunch of batteries and some books.” Ezra’s eyes widened and he stared at Druuna for a moment before stammering out “You…you went to the Oakwood? Didn’t you read that map right?! That place is too damn dangerous for someone to go in alone! You’re just lucky none of the tribals saw you!” Druuna grinned even wider and replied “They did. I killed four of them, one of whom was a mutant.” Ezra shook his head and cackled loudly “Hahaha, you really killed one of those big son of a bitches? Missy, you’re something else. So, what books did you find?” Druuna pulled out her engineering book and turned it to the section on dock cranes “I found this book, Ezra. I think it could be useful to Greenport.” Ezra scanned the pages for awhile, mumbling to himself. He grinned and looked up at Druuna “This might be just what we need. I’m going to go show these plans to the mayor and get back to you about it later.” “Oh, by the way, this is Janette.” Ezra added while gesturing to the young woman, before grabbing the book and exiting the guildhall.
She looked to be about nineteen to Druuna, a young girl with a tan, well proportioned body, chestnut brown hair swept into a short ponytail and green eyes. A bit short, but a very attractive woman nonetheless. Janette smiled at Druuna and shook her hand “It’s nice to meet you. I just joined the Guild.”. Druuna smiled warmly at Janette “Me too. The trip to Oakwood was my first excavation.” Janette looked at Druuna in surprise “Really? All by yourself? I’ve been hoping to go on an excavation, but it’s too dangerous to go out by myself and there aren’t any groups going out for months.” Druuna patted Janette’s shoulder and replied “Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll get your chance soon enough.”
It was starting to get later in the afternoon and Druuna would probably need to hurry if she wanted to do anything else before sun down. Though…she could stay at the guildhall and hang around with Janette some more. The young girl was interesting and very attractive…
What does Druuna do now?
