Chapter 102 by Fiftyfiftyfifty Fiftyfiftyfifty

What do you do?

Notice a signal.

Out of the corner of your eye, you spot Lalarin "Rabbit's Foot" Relestel. She gives you a brief affirming nod the moment your eyes meet. Then, after a moment of mingling with another guest, she makes her way over to you. She curtsies politely.

She speaks loud and clear. "We apologize for the earlier disturbance. I do hope you continue to enjoy our house. There is still dinner to be had." Then, she glances left and right, and changes to a more casual, discreet tone of voice. "Mission accomplished."

You watch her hand reach down through the collar of her dress and pop out a marble from between her cleavage. She then slides it back in and smiles.

"Is that it then?" you ask.

"For now. Talking more isn't safe. I'll get back to you in the future when I'm able, but for now, just stay as long as you'd like. Thank you, Kyle." She nods, and then steps off to the next guest, continuing her obligations.

Bek strolls by a few moments after.

He looks up to you with a hand beside his mouth, and he whispers, "Think I'll slip out of here before anyone asks me too many questions. Enjoy the night, pal."

"You too," you reply. "Good job, by the way."

"I'm a natural." He snickers and heads off.

I kinda hope RF gets back to me soon. I really want to know what the hell I just helped her steal from her mother.

The mess takes little time to clean up, so once again, you find yourself in a glorious room full of overly dressed men and women of varying races. You mingle awkwardly with a number of them, hoping to perhaps gain connections to better-paying quests. Though, it becomes increasingly obvious you were only invited because nobody knew you, by a specific individual with a plan in mind. Still, you try to get your name out there.

You also keep your eyes open for any kind of mage, or information on one, that might be able to help with your most predominate issue--how you actually came here to begin with.

Surely there's some sort of archmage in this kingdom. There's always one of those in an RPG. But these folk either know nothing, or won't tell me what I want to know.

Not even half an hour passes since the incident when Niki grabs your attention again.

"Hey, Kyle?"

"What's up?"

"I honestly don't think I handle this place for multiple more hours. Do you want to bounce soon?"

Staying for longer just to get another meal is really not worth it. And this is way more boring than I can handle too. Plus, the job is already done.
